August 5, 2023, history took a seat, ther picked one up.
On the Montgomery Riverfront, ordinary people did extraordinary things, and one humble folding chair earned a permanent place in the Black Cultural Hall of Fame.
What began as an act of injustice, signaled by a single black cap, became a global reminder that when our community answers the call, we answer together for the historical event formally known today as "Fade In The Water."
We honor the courage of those who stood up. swam across that water, and squared up for justice
Because as the anthem goes - Lift every chair and swing.

‼️‼️An important part most people don't know: Just a few hours earlier on that same day, a group of Black women having a weekend retreat held a beautiful ancestral healing ritual *at that exact location* -- the Riverfront Dock. Which has siqnificant history in the slave trade.
This is not a coincidence.
The women grounded the space and called in the spiritual and ancestral healing. The men were spiritually- and ancestrally-backed warriors who took physical action.
We *all* felt that energy when we saw the video. We saw it and knew this wasn't some regular fight. What we didn't know was that we only saw HALF of the story. But that is often the nature of real spiritual work. Internal. Unseen.
I never met her. but shout out to Candace Anderson for answering a that inner call to host that retreat and include that ritual. She's the shero most people have never heard of. She called that spiritual energy to the place it was needed most
