🌟 THE SHADOW WE CAST AS LEADERS 🌟

Today I had the privilege of attending the BNI Tampa Bay 2026 Summit alongside members of our current BNI Alliance Leadership Team and our incoming 2026–2027 Leadership Team.

I left today energized, inspired and, perhaps most importantly, reminded of the responsibility each of us carries when we choose to lead.

One of the most powerful messages of the day came from Mary Kennedy Thompson, CEO of BNI, as she spoke about “The Shadow We Cast as Leaders.”

Leadership isn’t simply what we say.

It’s what we DO.

It’s how we show up when no one is asking us to.
It’s how we treat people.
It’s whether we give before expecting something in return.
It’s whether our actions reflect the values we ask others to embrace.

Because ultimately, our behavior becomes our culture.

That message resonates deeply with me — both personally and professionally.

At Platinum — an Allen Coleman Salon, our commitment has always extended far beyond the walls of our salon. As CEO & Chief Community Officer, I believe a successful business has a responsibility to invest in its people, build meaningful relationships, support fellow businesses and strengthen the community it is fortunate enough to serve.

When we share an opportunity…
When we recommend another business…
When we mentor someone…
When we simply ask, “How can I help?”

…we create something much bigger than a transaction.

We create relationships, trust, opportunity and community.

I am also incredibly honored to share that I will serve as the BNI Alliance Growth Coordinator for the 2026–2027 term.

For me, “growth” will mean much more than growing the number of members in our chapter.

It means growing relationships.
Growing engagement.
Growing opportunities.
Growing referrals.
Growing leaders.
And growing the collective impact we can have on one another’s businesses and our community.

My goal is simple: help create an environment where others can succeed.

A tremendous thank you to Mary Kennedy Thompson for spending her afternoon with BNI Tampa Bay and challenging each of us to think about the shadow we cast.

And thank you to the leaders, members and business professionals throughout BNI Tampa Bay who continue to demonstrate what happens when people genuinely invest in one another.

As I look toward this next year of leadership, one question from today will stay with me:

What kind of shadow am I casting — and does it inspire others to become better because I was there?

That is a question worth asking in business, in leadership and in life.

Tonight, Allen and I had the honor of attending the AdventHealth Foundation West Florida Starlight Gala — The Rhythm Within, an inspiring celebration of generosity, healing, and the continued advancement of world-class cardiac services throughout our communities.

I was especially blessed and humbled to attend as Chair of the AdventHealth Wesley Chapel Foundation, while Allen and I were also incredibly proud to represent Platinum Salon and our commitment to the community we are so fortunate to serve.

Tonight was a powerful reminder that every heartbeat counts. Through philanthropy and the generosity of so many, AdventHealth continues to expand access to advanced heart care, enhance lifesaving diagnosis and treatment, and support whole-person recovery throughout West Florida.

I am particularly proud of what is happening right here in our community, including the launch of the open-heart program at AdventHealth Wesley Chapel. These investments aren’t simply about new technology or facilities—they are about giving our neighbors, friends and families access to exceptional, lifesaving care when every second matters.

To the physicians, nurses, caregivers, Foundation leaders, donors, volunteers and community partners who make this work possible—thank you. Your generosity truly changes and saves lives.

Allen and I left tonight feeling incredibly grateful, inspired and proud to play even a small part in this remarkable mission.

Yesterday, Allen was in his element — teaching, inspiring and elevating fellow professionals in the beauty industry during the Leyton House Professional Mixology Workshop: The Art & Science of Perfect Colour at Platinum Salon.

With 35+ years of experience, Allen brings so much more than technical knowledge to the classroom. He brings passion, real-world experience, creativity and, most importantly, a genuine desire to help other cosmetologists grow, gain confidence and become even better at their craft.

That is what makes a great educator. 🙌

Allen believes knowledge should never be kept to yourself. Share it. Teach it. Mentor others. Raise the bar for everyone around you.
