Milia are tiny keratin-filled cysts that form when dead skin cells and keratin become trapped beneath the surface of the skin instead of naturally shedding away. They’re not dirt or a clogged pore—they’re basically a little pocket of compacted keratin underneath the skin.

When you apply a very small amount of a nourishing eye cream or moisturizer to the area consistently, you’re helping keep the surrounding skin hydrated and supporting normal skin-cell turnover. Over time, that can help soften the compacted keratin and allow the skin to gradually release it through its normal shedding process.

Once the trapped material is able to break down and move toward the surface, the body can naturally clear and reabsorb the remaining material. That’s why, with very small milia, consistent gentle skincare can sometimes make them gradually become smaller and eventually disappear rather than having to physically extract them.

The key is using just a tiny amount—more product isn’t better. You’re supporting the skin’s natural turnover process rather than trying to force the milia out.
