Dear Susan,

Thank you for sharing with me your comments related to opening up salons and personal care businesses in light of COVID-19.

Like you, I understand the significant and detrimental impact the COVID-19 pandemic has inflicted on nearly every aspect of society and the economy. I agree that Americans ought to be able to get back to work in a manner that is safe and consistent with Federal public health guidance so that we can begin to rebuild America’s economy.

As you know, federal, state, and local public health authorities have been working to guide the response to this pandemic, with varying actions on the state and local level tailored to meet the circumstances of the respective jurisdictions. On August 28, Governor Newsom announced a new framework for counties to reopen based on test positivity and case rate metrics, which I unfortunately believe remains fatally flawed in its reliance on a one-size-fits-all approach from Sacramento. I will continue to talk to the Governor to follow the science and allow for more practical guidelines so we can reopen. As your Representative in Congress, be assured I have noted your comments and will keep them in mind as I continue to monitor this issue.

Over the past few weeks at 2BStyled, we’ve had many conversations with our clients and partners regarding COVID-19 and how we are managing the situation. As a state licensed shop, we have always adhered to strict (and regularly inspected) health and safety protocols, recommendations and guidelines.

We are not a large salon. We are a small, family shop. The recommended “social distancing” is easily managed by staggering appointments and chair assignments.
