In my previous post, I showed you a quick series of progressive exercises aimed at strengthening the plantar fascia and surrounding tissues.
Now let's take a look at stretches.
There aren't as many stretching options for this area, but you can see the full list here: https://releasemuscletherapy.com/plantar-fasciitis-stretches/
When it comes to stretches vs. exercises for plantar fasciitis, there doesn't seem to be a clear winner.
Some studies show less pain scores with exercises over 12 weeks, but after that the results are similar to stretching.
As with many common problems, it's probably best to use multiple modalities for best results, including manual therapy (to be discussed on another post!).
The same when it comes to repetitions, sets, how long to hold stretches, and how often to perform them throughout the day.
The generalized "2-3 reps of 20-30 seconds, 2x per day" is what you will commonly find.
The individual parameters (how many reps, length of time to hold the stretch, and how often to do throughout the day) should be individualized to the person.
