Do you know what’s in your skincare?
We regularly see patients concerned about hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone who have been using products purchased online, through social media, or from other countries.
Sometimes, patients don’t realize that the products they’re using may contain lightening or bleaching ingredients. Knowing the ingredients and how products are being used helps us understand what may be contributing to a concern and create a safer skincare plan moving forward.
We recommend choosing clearly labeled products from reputable sources and, when treating concerns like hyperpigmentation, using medical-grade skincare.

Swimming in your contacts? Your eyes may be at greater risk than you realize.
Pools, oceans, lakes, and even hot tubs can contain microorganisms. Contact lenses can trap these organisms against the cornea, increasing the risk of serious eye infections, including Acanthamoeba keratitis. And chlorine does not completely eliminate that risk.
The safest choice is to remove your contacts before swimming. If you need vision correction in the water, ask your ophthalmologist about prescription goggles.
Accidentally swam in your contacts? Remove them as soon as possible and don’t reinsert that same pair.

One of the most serious hyperpigmentation mistakes we see is using hydroquinone and “bleaching creams” that may contain hydroquinone for too long without medical supervision.
Overuse can contribute to ochronosis, a condition that may cause dark blue-gray or black discoloration and can be difficult to treat.
Hydroquinone can be effective when used correctly, but it is not intended for continuous use without guidance. If your dark spots are becoming darker, changing color, or no longer responding to your routine, it may be time for a professional evaluation.
Prevention starts with physician-guided skincare and consistent sunscreen use.

Treating dark spots without addressing the cause is one reason they keep returning.
Sun exposure, heat, inflammation, inconsistent skincare, and stopping treatment too early can all contribute to recurring pigmentation.
Hyperpigmentation usually requires more than a quick fix. A consistent, physician-guided plan, including daily sunscreen, is key to managing it over time.

With under-eye filler, more isn’t always better.
We take a gradual approach—starting conservatively, allowing the filler to settle, and adding a small touch-up later only when needed.
The under-eye area is delicate, and adding too much product at once may increase the risk of puffiness or interfere with natural lymphatic drainage. Building the result slowly helps maintain balance and creates a more natural-looking outcome.
