I love this shape and style!!!

She got her cosmetology license years ago but never worked as a stylist. She's been trimming her own hair but wanted a transformation!! Went for a razor cut short s**g 🤩

A "curly cut" isn't one specific thing. Its just a cut that centers your curls. This new client is a great example! Her top layer is much looser than underneath, so cutting her hair using standard principles left that top layer hanging long below the perimeter underneath. It was also longer on one side. Curly cuts account for varying shrinkage and patterns around the head to make a cohesive shape.

Jenifer had just retired and had no inspo/ guidelines for me! So I took it short enough to even it all out. The different bendy patterns in the hair change how the hair will expand on itself and build weight. This is the curly cut 😊

Strategic layering and appropriate styling make all the difference!!

She likes her hair soft and fluffy. My favorite way to do this is to get the hair defined, then BRUSH IT OUT 🤯 In this case I used my fingers but different tools will give different results. The idea is to START with the structure and shape and then soften and expand from there 🥰

From heavy layers to a weightless s**g!

She's been seeing a curl specialist in LA when she'd travel to see her sister. Now she can get her hair done right here in The Gorge!

She has really high density AND thick, coarse strands. Shags are a great way to remove weight!

Styling hair when it is SOAKING wet can make very thick curl clumps (seen here). This is another way to collapse the weight and remove volume.

My first curly cut on my mom! But not my mom's first curly cut. She's been getting Ouidad curly cuts for decades!

She flew in the night before and got in at midnight, so her hair was super stretched. She's dealing with density loss and hadn't had a cut in 8 months, so i focused on building density and fullness. She doesn't ever diffuse her hair anymore since moving to Florida so they'll be more elongation when she styles it. Plus, I introduced her to brush styling so we definitely got more shrinkage than she normally would! Shes been coloring the front section at home so I did olaplex and k18 to bring some elasticity back.

She said she likes the way i styled her hair better than the Ouidad method 🥰

Fine hair gets weighed down easily. The trick is to alleviate weight! On some heads, it does have to be a choice between length and shape. Diffusing also really helps!

I charge by time, but my curly kids appointments don't include as much education as my adult/big kids appointments do. Therefore, my kids appointments are the same length and price as the equivalent returning client appointment. HOWEVER, Curly Care Education is still available as an add-on - for the bendy head themself or for the caregiver!
