UNDERDOG BARBERSHOP

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to help out a mother and her son who had been in the ICU for months in a critically ill state. She was looking to get him a haircut as the time he spent in the hospital led to his hair becoming over grown, and he was no longer looking like himself. After being tagged in a strangers post on Facebook which led to speaking with Nicole, we set up a day for the haircut to take place.

Growing up being immune compromised, I had some familiarity with the hospital myself. Despite what experience I had, I was not prepared to navigate all the tubes and wires connected to Jack in the ICU. Myself, Nicole and a nurse were able to turn and position Jack so that I could use the clippers and shears safely to give him the best haircut possible. After the haircut was complete I could see the gratitude and recognition on Nicole’s face that Jack was looking like the boy she was used to.

This experience was like nothing I have ever been part of before and something I am so grateful to have had. Although it may sound like I am the one who was able to help Nicole and her son, the time I spent with them truly helped me and gave me the reminder I needed to appreciate my health, and not take any day for granted. Nicole is an amazing mother and her strength is nothing short of inspiring. This year has been amazing for myself and Underdog Barbershop… It has brought a great first 6 months of business since rebranding and opening up a bigger shop. I have a dream team here and I couldn’t have done any of it without them, my family, friends, and amazing Gf helping me along the way. I especially want to thank my customers who have stayed with me all of these years, and our new customers who have given the underdogs a shot!
