Magdalenas salon

I took a day off to get some things done. The entry is ready for tile. The caulking on the ceiling will have to dry and I can get that painted. I’m working in the lounge room and then I’ll start in the kitchen. A little at a time and eventually it will be finished.

The blinds are definitely the way to go. I don’t know what I was thinking with drapes. They just get in the way & the blinds still allow light without being blinded by the sun. I got into the salon so fast I didn’t have time to think that through. The nice thing is if you don’t like it, change it.

I ended up painting the hall ceiling. I still have some touch ups to do. The paint chips kept falling on the floor even after I scraped. With having events in the future I can’t have that. The food would be a little crunchy. I thought about covering it to match the salon, but I still wanted to keep some originality to the place.
I’ll be starting on the kitchen area soon. Then hopefully by late fall we will start out front. That needs a lot done. (Winter project)

I came across this photo when I was searching for old photos of Tonganoxie. I had never seen it before. My son has found old photos on eBay oddly enough. It makes you wonder if postcards were sent out and now they are resurfacing.

The Tonganoxie Union Pacific Depot est in 1867. I loved that building. I always thought it would have been a neat information building. It would give people all the information on the town and businesses and what they provide. Also have a little history.

I got my sign for the salon entrance. ( It will be mounted on the brick) I will have one for the front of the building once it’s finished. It will say what the building was built for “ Toburen’s Bakery & Ice Cream EST. 1910” I will have to be absolutely sure of the date before I order it. My property tax says 1890 so who knows for sure.

The flowers have done really well on the east side of the building. With it being shaded in the afternoon helps I’m sure.
The purple flowers have such a bright unique color.
They are a flutter deep blue pincushion flower. (They look purple to me)
The orange flowers have filled out really well.
They are a gusto sweet chili blanket flower.
Miracle grow once a week and we have been blessed with rain so the combination is the reason they are doing good

This one isn’t as clear but still a cool picture. That was probably a really neat business. Everyone loves ice cream.
