Tonight we gathered for an unforgettable evening of education on the trending mod cut, hosted by educator April .

It was the perfect mix of laughs, great food, catching up with old friends — especially my guy — and a very special appearance from my first apprentice, Christian .

This is what barbershop culture means to me: bringing people together like family and friends to laugh, learn, and grow while picking up new skills and staying ahead on the latest styles.

I was also lucky enough to snap a rare photo with all my apprentices I’ve had the honor of mentoring over the years. I’m beyond proud of each and every one of them — watching how far they’ve come and the incredible things they continue to achieve is truly special.

These past couple of weeks have been filled with education and community involvement, including serving on our local OAC Barbering Committee for the TATC.

This was a special meeting — the first official OAC for the new Barber program. It was rewarding to hear how many of my recommendations from the previous Cosmetology/Barber committee were implemented into the current TATC barbering program.

It’s great to have three of us from the shop on the OAC board: Erika, Dacia, and myself. Erika couldn’t attend this meeting because she was home watching our son, but it was still inspiring to see barbers from across town come together with real passion to build a better program for the next generation. When we invest our time and knowledge in those who follow, we shape brighter futures and stronger communities.

It was also fantastic seeing Mena confidently lead her first meeting. She’s doing an outstanding job at the TATC. 💈❤️

I finally had the chance to visit the local CLC. The program is primarily geared toward high school students from the surrounding Tooele high schools. It was my youngest group of students yet, but the passion and energy were definitely there.

I really enjoy taking the time to get out and spend it with these guys, sharing the skills and the love for the craft. A big thank you to Lori and Bonnie — y’all are consistently churning out some of the best barbers in the game. It’s wild sitting down with you and hearing just how many of our own barbers have come through this very program.

To all the young barbers coming up: Keep showing up with that same fire and passion. The skills you’re building today will open doors you haven’t even imagined yet. Stay hungry, stay humble, and keep perfecting your craft — the future of barbering is in your hands.❤️💈

Yesterday was our eight-year anniversary at the shop. It’s hard to believe it’s already been eight years — nearly a decade.

I still remember driving past that empty building and thinking it would be the perfect spot for a barbershop. I’ve raised my family right here in the shop. My oldest daughter Jaz has been part of it since she was a little kid sweeping the floors, and now as an adult she’s answering phones and booking appointments. The others are already starting down that same path, growing up in the shop alongside us.

We truly appreciate you, Tooele, and all the barbers who have helped us build this dream.

This is Ty’s little boy practicing his fresh cuts and getting ready for his future duties at Black Cat! 😂 We dug in the back and found an old Black Cat uniform that fit him perfectly, so we hooked him up with it to match his new barber chair and working blow dryer.
