I have been in the industry for 10 years. I love doing many different services but my favorites are dimensional reds and transformations with extensions.

When your client says she doesn’t know what she wants and shows you a TON of different inspo photos 😰

But actually I love the freedom. The most important thing in these situations is knowing their desired maintenance and budget. Yea, it would be fun to do a full bleach out, but then they’re locked into 4 weeks appointments that are pricier.

My clients tend to be dimensional brunettes/reds who see me 2-4x a year for color. Do you think that maintenance it too much? Too little?

I got way too excited and had to take a photo before styling so you can see just how much extensions can change your hair. This is just a single pack of Tape-in extensions!

If your hair is thin, fine, or just doesn’t seem to grow past a certain length, book a complimentary consultation to find out how you can transform your hair!

Swipe to see my client from almost 1 year ago!!

When she came to me she wasn’t as blonde as she wanted, had so much breakage and never wanted a trim…

We’ve come such a long way and here are a few ways we did that.

1. I used a very low volume developer so it was the most gentle lifting process possible.

2. Dry cut her ends so she could see and control exactly how much I trimmed each time.

3. When she absolutely didn’t want a cut I used the split end mender to help her hair appear healthier and keep it from future damage/breakage.

4. Had her start using good products that have protein, moisture and heat protection in them.

There are ways to get what you want but it’s a compromise sometimes.

My go-to way to get hair healthy is a big chop or stop highlighting but I understand the desire for long blonde hair. So she still has some breakage towards her ends. Considering we kept her length and continued doing highlights she has made great progress in a year!

Thinking of going dark after being blonde for a while? Here are some things to know:

~ Fading: if your hair is super blonde chances are it’s porous. This simply means your hair has holes in it that allow it to take color in but also it will fade out quickly. So you may need to come in to have your color refreshed. Low maintenance doesn’t always mean no maintenance.

~ Going lighter down the line: Everyone knows lifting through dark color can be challenging but lifting through color that was over highlights has its own obstacle- damage. Just because you color over it doesn’t make it go away. It’s much easier to fry the hair if it’s already been ultra processed. So if you go dark you may have to wait a couple years until you’re bright blonde again.

Who else is in the giving spirit? Here are some hair inspired gift ideas for your loved ones this year:

🎁 Products - I know this one seems obvious but people love things they’ll actually use.

🎁Velcro rollers and hair accessories - the 90s blowout look is so popular you can’t go wrong with rollers or cute scrunchies/claw clips.

🎁Satin pillowcases or bonnets - they help prevent frizz and breakage.

🎁Salon gift card - this way if you’re not sure what they use, it helps pay for their services or products.

These items are easy to find at salons (or on their website) and you can find any and every hair tool and accessory on Amazon!

For rooted or lived in color you can more or less choose your maintenance. This client went about 6 months and it look more like an ombré than a balayage.

My recommendation is to come in and do a trim and tone or face frame every 3-4 months and then alternate these with the bigger blonding appointment.

This will keep things fresh, save you some money and keep your hair healthier by spacing out appointments.

I love working on brunettes! Here are things I discuss with my dark haired clients when choosing color.

~ Health: this is #1 to me. I prefer keeping brunettes in reds, coppers and dark golds. Goals that are platinum or white can be hard on the hair. Not only that, the maintenance is high at home and in salon. Periodic toners, home conditioning and bonding treatments, etc.

~ Skin tone vs hair color: many people with darker features like their skin, brows and eyes tend to look best with warm toned hair and I try to give suggestions that I think will complement my clients features.

~ Maintenance: going super light is going to increase contrast, which means the grow out won’t be as soft or natural. If a client wants something lower maintenance, choosing a darker or more natural color will give a softer grow out.

Traditional balayage on my client with naturally dirty blonde hair 🤤

The lower the contrast between the natural color and the highlights the softer the grow out. Higher contrast color can be rooted/lived-in but the dark roots will always have less blend and be slightly higher maintenance.

Reposting this because it’s so important to beep in mind! Your natural color will determine how high/low the contrast is when wanting extremely blonde highlights.

On the left she has dark brown hair (like one shade away from black) and on the right she is naturally dirty blonde. So even though I did the same foil placement you see a lot more depth on the left.

Your natural color with play into your final result, so keep that in mind when looking at inspiration pictures!

What can I say? I’m loving the copper trend 🧡❤️

Another day another blonde to red transformation!

This client has some allergies to color so I did a patch test the week before her appointment and did a completely off scalp color service just in case! This was also the best option because she wanted a natural root to keep it low maintenance.

Then we decided to touch up her bold money piece. Isn’t it SO fun?!?!

My absolute favorite transformation recently. I mean look at her eyes pop! 👀

Going from highlights to a copper/red doesn’t have to be difficult. I did her usual blended highlight/teasylight and used the red as her toner. It tinted her natural a bit so it’s all cohesive.

Because it was a toner and not permanent color it will fade and she won’t have a harsh regrowth line.
