It’s cold, the wind is blowing at an ungodly speed, you are walking down a busy street. You are wearing sneakers, jeans and a jacket that may have seen better days. Your face is sore from the cold wind and despite the chapped skin on your hands you try to cram them into your jean pockets. This is the reason for Mittens For Detroit. This is the feeling we, you and everyone who donates is creating. A chain reaction of hope. Maybe it was the unseasonably warm weather we had early this fall, or maybe my lack of promoting and posting, but we are at a RECORD LOW in our collections this year. Last year was a struggle because I was so busy caring for my Dad, this year just seems like we’ve all forgotten…

GUESS WHAT?!?!
This is my 11th season working for Mittens for Detroit as a mitten hustler! I’ve been so blessed to have been able to not only have a wonderful job that allows me to meet and create with so many amazing people, but I have ALSO been SO blessed to be able to call upon all of you along with my family and friends and suite mates to help me raise an enormous amount of mittens and gloves to keep the hands of those less fortunate warm and healthy! It’s not enough to make beautiful hands, we must take care of them, for ourselves and each other. Working with MFD has also blessed ME, in bringing such amazing people in my life like Wendy Shepherd the lady who makes it all happen! Thank you Wendy for everything you do and for believing people deserve to be warm and cared for! Your mitten spirit is SO BIG and so very admirable!

I say all this as we kick off a new season and I ask once again for all of you to open your hearts and help us make this the best season yet!

Mittens for Detroit and TARGET CIRCLE UPDATE!

Mitten collecting season has begun!!! As of NOW our box is OUT and we are ready to accept all your NEW, UNUSED, mittens and gloves of ALL sizes!! This year I am really pushing it because due to the pandemic the last few years have been a little tough, for collectors AND the people who need them. Our goal this year is to strive for quality over quantity as I encourage you to spend a little more and bring mittens that will last longer and withstand the elements a little better! In the years past (it’s been 9 since we began our MFD partnership) we have raise thousands of pairs of mittens, bringing in some years, over 300 pairs each season. This year I’m willing to lower our commitment to numbers for quality! If YOU had just ONE pair of gloves or mittens and spent much of your time outdoors, what would you personally dream of having?
Also for our TARGET CIRCLE USERS:
MFD can now collect your nonprofit votes through the target circle app! It’s fun and easy to donate this way! I encourage you to download the app and enroll (its free and you also get great deals!) and send MFD all your votes! In the past this easy way to donate has raised up to $9000 to our beloved charity!

Just a little note about an upcoming price change for services at the studio:
As many of you know it’s been a few months coming. With rising shipping costs and availability issues making things complicated for a business that uses many products that are unfortunately not locally made I’ve made the decision to raise my prices beginning December 1.
Also, note that art prices have also changed.
Please check the Nickis Nail Studio page Under services, for a complete list of price changes. Thank you for understanding, it’s been over three years since we’ve had a price increase, and even longer since acrylic prices have gone up in the studio.
As always I appreciate your business and strive to continue to use only the best tried and true products on all my clients. ❤️

At this time, I am currently NOT accepting new clients. My schedule is very full making it challenging for existing clients to book or move around existing appointments,therefore adding clients to that list is unfair and impossible for me to fit in my day.
When I open the books to new clients, I WILL post to let you know, but at this time my books are closed.
I’m very sorry to those who want to get in, I appreciate all the calls and messages, but at this time closing the books, at least through the holidays, so I can focus on my regular clients is the right thing to do.

It’s been quite a year! After a three month pandemic break, I did a heck of a lot of nails! Thank you to my loyal supporters and clients for riding the storm with me. I know that getting the ability to come into the studio was not only a blessing business wise but also good for our hearts to have the chance to treat ourselves and raise our spirits, something we definitely needed to do MANY times this year. It’s the small things, and the personal contact that can really make a difference. Here’s a few of my favorite sets and highlights from the last 7 months or so.
