Thanks for sharing your inspirational stories on the challenges you have overcome! I promised to share my story so here it is!

In 2001 I was a single mom working as a critical care nurse. On the way home from work (they cancelled my shift!) I had a roll over accident going 80 miles per hour on I-17 right before Black Canyon City. I was bruised and battered but no critical injuries and I was released from the hospital the next day.

I spent the next 3 weeks recuperating at my parents home and then returned to work in the ICU. Couldn't put my finger on it but something just wasn't right. Things that were once easy for me seemed almost impossible! So I decided that I would work in a less demanding unit and continued working for about 6 weeks. Something was wrong but I really wasn't sure what! My doctor decided to put me through some cognitive testing and I failed everything! The doctor told me that I couldn't return to work and I either had to voluntarily quit or they would do it for me! She suggested that I apply for permanent disability!

To make a long story short I spent the next 3 years rehabbing to recover from this injury. I wasn't able to return to ICU nursing for over 6 years!

At the time it seemed as if my life was over and I became quite depressed. However, in late 2004 my sister and I started a successful company and actually won a national contest for women owned businesses! I was in charge of all the outside sales and marketing and training for the company! I would never have learned that I have a natural gift for sales and marketing without this challenge/opportunity!

I am glad that I never listened to those who told me to just give up and accept my limitations! After about 3 years I was close to my pre-accident level and 6 years later I surpassed it! Today my life is richer and fuller because of this experience that at the time seemed like the "end of the world"!

Sounds like Botox parties in Tucson are not as popular as they are in Scottsdale and Phoenix! I enjoyed reading your responses of shock and horror! I felt the same way! I was invited to a botox and filler party at a salon in Scottsdale almost 3 years ago. This is the only one I have ever attended (so it really wasn’t a home botox party). My thoughts were “who in their right mind would go to someone’s house and let someone who isn’t even a doctor or nurse then inject them with a potentially lethal substance”?
Apparently it is pretty common in certain circles. For instance, my sister lives in Morgan Hill, California and her neighbor hosts a botox party every 3 months in her home with her friends and family and the person who injects isn’t licensed in any field! Apparently this is not a deterrent for her wealthy, aging friends!
Luckily botox is safe and can be done at a home without issues. The main problem is that Botox Cosmetic from Allergan can only be purchased by a medical doctor so the authenticity of the botox is questionable when not given by someone who is a medical professional.
Well, the Scottsdale event was a huge success and I had botox for the first (and so far only time) and it didn’t work! It was injected by a top plastic surgeon though! I had to fill out a medical questionnaire and sign consent forms so it was definitely legitimate.
I actually decided to become a “botox nurse” myself because I saw the huge demand for the service and was appalled that non-medical professionals were giving the injections. I was concerned with the lack of follow up and decided that I would provide that along with a guarantee that if the injection doesn’t work then I would redo the procedure at cost!

Question for Today: Has anyone either attended a botox party or been invited to one in Tucson?

Thought I would share a fabulous recipe that I found on YouTube! I have been making this constantly and my significant other loves it! I had always wanted to learn to cook vegetarian but never found really tasty, spicy delicious recipes that were easy to make! This recipe takes about 30 minutes including cooking time and is delicious. Manjula walks you through each step! I usually increase the spices and I add lemon juice instead of the mango powder! Hope you enjoy!
