Hello! Welcome to our relaxed luxury salon in Tucson, az. New location June 2023. I want to share a brief bio about my 23 years in the hair and beauty industry.
I went to a local beauty school in Tucson, AZ. As most experienced and successful hairstylist know, beauty school is just the beginning. Every great stylist has a mentor to thank! A mentor who saw potential in us and invested their time, experience, and knowledge to help the upcoming hairstylist of the day. I would like to thank Gadabout and specifically Frank Westerbeke for being my mentors. As my internship came to an end I move to Dallas, TX. This forced me to leave the Gadabout family in Tucson, AZ. I had another great opportunity upon my arrival to Dallas. I stumbled onto a 2002 issue of The Best of Big D magazine in Dallas featuring the top 20 salons in this lovely metropolitan city. I decided to start my job search there. This was pretty bold for a small town girl from Arizona. Thankfully I landed a full time position at Michael Raymond Salon which is an exclusive AVEDA salon. Their mission is to care for the world we live in and give back. I love the culture and training I received here. After 2 years of working for a great company I returned back to Tucson. Knowing my cliental would be well cared for I said goodbye peacefully. I decided to keep the adventure going by starting my own business. I thank my family and friends for helping me get reconnected in Tucson. I had zero clients so I started cutting and coloring hair in people's home. It was definitely a humble beginning. After a month or so of home services, I decided to rent a small space that needed a generous serving of TLC (tender love and care, for those of you not familiar with abbreviations). I signed a one year lease with a mere handful of clients. I have seen God's blessing ever since & I am ever so thankful. I believe in giving back. It should be a tangible demonstration of gratitude. So in 2007 (roughly) when the AVEDA Institute had an official opening day I decided to get my Arizona License as an Instructor. What better way to give back than doing it with beauty school students. I still kept my shop open and taught on my days off. I won't lie, it was exhausting but extremely rewarding. I don't have words to describe the satisfaction that I experienced during that first year. I was honored to have been selected as an instructor. Fifth Gear Salon is locally owned and operated for 15 years now! Time flies when you are having fun. I want to take a moment to thank the "old timers" of Fifth Gear Salon. Thank you for all the years of loyalty, friendship, and hair! Some of you have been with me 10-15 years. I have gone through a few remodels. This year's remodel should last me another few years. As I enter into my 20th year in the industry I realize this is so much more than just a good hair service. It's about building good relationships that go much further than a haircut or color. Don't get me wrong, a good haircut and color service is essential and a good starting point, but it's just the beginning.
The real question is… what’s happening underneath and around the install?
A healthy hair extension install should maintain the integrity of the natural hair — meaning consistent density, balanced tension, healthy growth, and no thinning around the row.
When the row is lifted, it should look like you simply parted your hair: full, even density on both sides.

Pt.3 This level of shedding is not something I would ever consider “normal.”
When extension methods are installed with too much tension, poor placement, excessive weight, or without proper consideration for the guest’s natural density… the integrity of the hair underneath can absolutely suffer.
