Three of our MEA board members served as council delegates during today’s Mississippi Cosmetology and Barbering Council meeting.

Take a moment to share a piece of advice you wish someone had shared with you once you started this career.

Sharing with one another can build not only others up but ourselves as well.

Put into the world what you wish to receive and today we are encouraging positivity from our estheticians.

Your license defines the services you can—and cannot—provide.

Remember:

• Barbers: No comedone extractions, waxing, manicures or epilation, except hair removal with tweezers. Depilation is permitted.
• Estheticians: No back facials, vagacial/vajacial services, lash lifts or head spa services.
• All licensees: Yoni steaming and buccal massage are not within the scope of any MSBCB license.

When in doubt, check your scope before providing the service.

We know that information that may seem alarming to our states estheticians was received today via the State Board newsletter.

We want our members to know this will be discussed and we will be updating you on all info and how to be involved in the change during our member meeting.

There is no better time than now to be Involved within our association as we prep for the upcoming council which is where the changes happen for our industry.

This service is not in scope for any licensee under the State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering.

🚫Having a certification does NOT make it legal for you to perform as it is out of scope with or without certification.🚫

Remember that certification does not equate to licensed.

Our association is working alongside our State
Board members to help ensure our estheticians are staying within scope.

We will be discussing much of this within our association group chat and would love to have as many estheticians involved as possible so we can help prevent you from possibly receiving future fines from working out of scope.

Important note: there are many estheticians performing services within our state that is out of scope at the time. We want to help educate on this and allow you to be a part of the change.

It’s important to know your scope of practice as an esthetician in Mississippi.

🧖🏻‍♀️ Did you know that if you are only licensed in esthetics that you are not legally allow to perform a headspa service?

In Mississippi you must be a licensed cosmetologist to perform this service and stay in scope.

When in doubt about your scope of practice or if a service falls in that scope, contact our Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering office.
