WHAT DOES THE RED WHITE AND BLUE REPRESENT ON THE BARBER POLE?
I'm glad you asked. So now I have to tell ya!

Before the 1700's in addition to cutting hair, barbers throughout Europe pulled teeth, perform minor surgery and practiced bloodletting. During bloodletting, patients squeezed a pole to allow the blood to flow more freely. The pole was often painted red to mask bloodstains. At the end of operation the pole was wrapped in white bandages used during the operation and put outside the shop to air. SO... we have the red that represents arterial blood, blue is symbolic for venous blood and white to depict the bandages. I speak for myself when I say this but "I'm glad we don't do that anymore"!
