I started making soap in small batches using the cold press method as a personal solution to my skin problems. After noticing positive results from using natural ingredients that are nourishing to the skin, I discontinued the use of store bought soaps. No more irritating skin flare-ups due to the synthetic ingredients, harsh chemicals and artificial fragrances that most store soaps contain. Some o
f my favorite ingredients are probably already in your kitchen pantry...oatmeal, honey and olive oil. Once I recognized the benefits of making my own soap, I grew it a step further. In an effort to live a more sustainable life, I eliminated all store bought products from my daily routine that claim to be gentle on the skin. Laundry detergent, bath and shower products, deodorant, toothpaste, mouthwash, lotion, lip balm and most importantly...household cleaners! I found myself experimenting in my kitchen to find new ways to live a simpler and healthier life. I started mixing large bottles of vinegar, baking soda, fresh squeezed lemon juice, fresh orange peel oil and a couple of drops of 100% essential oil. I also frequented the local farmers' markets to obtain healthy foods free of pesticides and fertilizers. I started paying more attention to what I put in my body realizing that proper nourishment is key to healthy, clear skin. Fresh, homegrown fruits and vegetables became my new main staple items. This past spring, I planted a herb garden overflowing with mint, thyme, chamomile, lavender, rosemary and feverfew - all of which possess natural healing and soothing characteristics to the skin. Some of my favorite soaps are those that I have folded herbs straight from my yard into the batch during the superfatting process. All of these experiences have heightened my awareness and helped me understand how easy it is to maintain a healthy and sustainable lifestyle while being friendly to our environment. I hope you enjoy sampling the natural skin care products I have made from scratch!
