When I was in school with , I was introduced to the world of philanthropy.

The campaign was “GIVING BACK IS THE NEW BLACK” and that is something that has stuck with me the last 17 years.

JPMS is so generous and gives back to numerous organizations around the world and that’s just one of the reasons I stay loyal to them. They inspire me everyday to give back to my community.

So now, with being blessed with an amazing business and loyal clients, I am able be involved and sponsor fundraisers with the organizations I believe are making a real difference here in Tyler, TX. It’s truly fulfilling and I encourage everyone to give back if you can.

Let’s talk about Lice 🥴

School has started so no doubt the big L isn’t far behind.

Head lice are easiest to see at the nape of the neck and over the ears.

How to Identify:
•Actual Bugs: Adult lice may be about the size of a sesame seed or slightly larger.
•Lice eggs (nits) on the hair shaft: Nits may be difficult to see because they're very tiny. They're easiest to spot around the ears and the nape of the neck. Nits can be mistaken for white dandruff, but unlike dandruff, they can't be easily brushed out of hair. (Pic attached)

Causes:
•Lice feed on human blood. You can get lice by coming into contact with either lice or their eggs. Lice can't jump or fly.

They spread through:
•Head-to-head contact. This may occur as children play or interact closely.
•Closely stored items such as pillows, blankets, combs and stuffed toys together. For kids, hanging jackets up close to each other at school.
•Shared items like clothing, headphones, brushes, combs, hair accessories, towels, blankets, pillows, etc.
•Contact with furniture that has lice on it. Any cloth-covered furniture recently used by someone with lice can spread them. Movie theater chairs can be a big one.

Lice can live for 1 to 2 days off the body.

Prevention:
•Make sure you educate your child to avoid head-to-head contact with classmates. Tell them not to share personal belongings such as hats, scarves, coats, combs/brushes, hair accessories and headphones with their friends at school.
•Preventative Sprays - sprays that include essential oils tea tree, rosemary, lemongrass, citronella and/eucalyptus can help prevent lice from attaching. (These are *not* a treatment for lice.)

A common misconception is that lice likes dirty hair. Lice actually prefer clean hair to attach to.

If your kid gets lice, don’t worry! It’s treatable. Tyler has a lice clinic.
