🥊 Did you know Pride Month is celebrated in June because it honors the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York City — when q***r and trans folks finally got tired of being harassed, arrested, brutalized, and treated like society’s emotional support punching bag? Crazy right?

🏳️‍🌈 Black and brown trans women, drag queens, street kids, le****ns, and gay activists were in that fight, they were the backbone. Not corporations. Not Target seasonal merchandising. PEOPLE. Parents, siblings, cousins, aunties and uncles, young humans, PEOPLE.

Put respect on names like:

And while we’re here:
Black trans folks have BEEN carrying movements like these on their backs while simultaneously being asked to survive systems actively trying to erase them for more than just being q***r. 📚 LGBTQ History Month is actually in OCTOBER, it was created in 1994 by Missouri high school teacher Rodney Wilson. October was chosen because:

🍂 National Coming Out Day is October 11
🍂 and it gave space to TEACH q***r history instead of pretending q***r people spontaneously spawned into existence during disco or the current administration.

I’ve never seen so many people simultaneously send prayer hands and thoughts and prayers whilst bashing someone else for asking for help. Prayer hands don’t pay the tab, Karen. I can’t hug it out with the utility company.

When you post “Who’s the best realtor/stylist/mechanic/etc?” the algorithm does NOT gently deliver your question to every qualified professional in town like a tiny digital carrier pigeon 🐦

It pushes it mostly to:
✨ people you already engage with and the people they stalk
✨ chronic commenters with unlimited free time
✨ businesses camped in the comments section like it’s the Hunger Games

📣 That’s literally how engagement-based algorithms work. The more interaction history you have, the more likely Facebook is to show them your post. Not the other way around.

So now your “carefully researched recommendation” is Sharon’s vape-selling nephew and a woman named “✨Hairy Harlots by Hagatha✨” fighting for their LIFE in 73 comments, and not the stylists whose work is actually worth the try. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Meanwhile some of the best businesses in town never even saw the post because they were busy doing actual client work instead of patrolling Facebook groups like mall security 👮‍♀️ .

📊 All this is to say… don’t hang out in the comment section of the local groups your entire six block radius is in. You’ll only get 36 blocks of suggestions. And there are approximately 230 verified stylists working in Tyler, according to a quick google search (due to the nature of small business in Texas and the lack of commissioned salons, this information is likely skewed, however my hope is that you get the point: there’s more than eleventeen people that work in the city. Do with that info what you will.)

That’s normal. And here’s why:
