This week has been SO busy that I forgot to post my 1 year anniversary of ByKatArant 🤎🪞

October 7th, 2025 I started Cosmetology school & created this page— having previously been in healthcare for 4 years prior.

October 10th, 2025– I took my very first spray tan certification course.. not realizing that I would create a whole business & name for myself in this industry. I just thought, “I want to learn everything possible about this career that I can”.

My main thought being certified in spray tanning was getting my husband to spray tan me & maybe me spraying a couple of friends here and there— little did I know😉…

I knew deep down that I always wanted to be in this industry, but COVID happened when I was a senior in high school and my biggest fear was financial insecurity. Everything was shut down, all salons were shut down, hair appointments were on pause. So I panicked and chose something I always knew, was constantly surrounded by & knew would give me financial stability. But after COVID, the entire healthcare system changed & I became burnt out quickly. My heart wasn’t fully in it like it should’ve been.

After a lot of convincing from my wonderful & supportive husband, I finally made the leap of faith and started Cosmetology School. A year ago, I was super eager to learn everything, scared that I wasn’t going to succeed in this industry, scared of “competition”, you name it.

Now 1 year later, I have had the pleasure of doing hundreds (maybe even a thousand) of clients whether that be spray tanning, hair, or makeup.

1 year later, I have built a business from scratch and a name for myself in this industry.
1 year later, I have 6 certifications behind my name with a couple of more to come super duper soon.
1 year later, I now have people messaging me from across the state, even a few from out of state.
1 year later, I am now the Co-Owner of The Muse Beauty Bar.

I genuinely could not see myself doing anything else. I truly have the best clients, friendships, supporters & mentor/co-worker/now business partner (Skylar Shell King) I could’ve ever asked for. I remember joining The Muse, scared I wasn’t going to live up to Skylar’s expectations regarding makeup. She had so much faith in me, when I didn’t have faith in myself. And for that I am grateful.

Four years ago, I was an avid tanning bed user in college. I’m talking every single day, sometimes twice a day. “𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺. 10 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵”

I wanted the perfect tan. I wanted to look bronzed. I wanted that “just got back from vacation” glow year-round. I was too busy to wait on self tanner most of the time. “10 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵” “𝘐 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘩𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘶𝘯𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬”

And at the time, I honestly didn’t think much about what I was doing to my skin. I mean, skin care was just becoming ‘big’ at the time.

Fast forward 5 years…

I’m still trying to heal the damage from one particular spot on my nose that I developed from tanning beds — what I jokingly call my “leather nose.” 🫠

It’s something I wish I could go back and tell my younger self about.

Because tanning beds don’t just give you a tan. UV exposure accumulates. And indoor tanning is associated with increased risk of skin cancer, including melanoma. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends saying no to tanning beds altogether.

And THAT is a huge part of why spray tanning became so much more than just a business to me.

Yes, I love making you feel bronzed.
Yes, I love a good contour tan.
Yes, I love when you leave my room feeling like a million bucks.

But more than anything, I love being able to give women the confidence of feeling tan without having to bake their skin to get there. I love being able to educate my clients. I love being a safe space for everyone that steps into my room. No judgement. Period.

So this October is especially meaningful to me.

I’m celebrating my 25th birthday.
I’m celebrating ONE YEAR of ByKatArant.
And I’m using both celebrations as an opportunity to give back.

For the entire month of October, ByKatArant is partnering with The Skin Cancer Foundation and Look Good Feel Better Foundation to bring awareness to skin cancer prevention, sun-safe beauty, and the incredible connection between beauty and confidence.

The Skin Cancer Foundation works to educate people about skin cancer prevention and early detection, while Look Good Feel Better helps people undergoing cancer treatment manage appearance-related changes and regain confidence and a sense of self.

And honestly? That combination feels like the perfect representation of why I do what I do.

Because I don’t want my business to simply be about making people look tan. I want it to be about making you feel beautiful, confident, cared for, and empowered to take care of the skin you’re in.

So when you book with me this October, a percentage of all spray tans booked will be going towards these two foundations that mean so much to me and others. You’re celebrating more than my birthday and a business milestone. You’re spreading awareness, educating, and making an impact.

5 SUNBURNS. 𝑻𝑯𝑨𝑻’𝑺 𝑰𝑻.

Many of my clients know, this business isn’t just about “making people tan” for me. It’s about properly educating clients, helping them feel confident in their own skin & being a safe space for every client that steps in my room.

🤎Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that begins in melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin—the pigment that gives your skin, hair, and eyes their color. It is considered the most serious type of skin cancer because it can grow deeper into the skin and spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body if it isn’t detected and treated early.

𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 5 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐎𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐚.

And here’s the part I really want you to know:

That “little tan” you get from laying out, vacationing, or hitting the tanning bed is still your skin responding to UV radiation. A tan is not your skin getting healthier — it’s your skin trying to protect itself from UV damage.

And that damage adds up over time.

❗️Childhood sunburns matter.
❗️Blistering burns matter.
❗️Tanning bed exposure matters.
❗️ Repeated “I don’t burn, I just tan” exposure matters.
‼️ (Bonus tidbit) Gel nails? They get cured with a UV lamp. Make sure you’re properly moisturizing AND using a lightweight sunscreen when you get your nails done!

The good news? You don’t have to give up your tan.

SUNLESS tanning (Spray Tanning) allows you to enjoy the bronzed look without intentionally exposing your skin to UV rays.

Just remember: a spray tan is NOT sunscreen. Keep your SPF, seek shade, wear protective clothing, and let your glow come from your sunless tan instead. 🤎
