Let’s talk gray blending, aka “modern” coverage. This client came in with about a half inch of regrowth, approximately 25% gray sprinkled through the top and sides of her head, and minimal gray in the back. Instead of proceeding with a transitional color service, like the ones you see in the Jack Martin | Silver Hair Expert videos, and also what this client actually booked for, I opted for a classic retouch with demi-permanent color.

I did this because the client’s goal wasn’t to completely stop coloring her hair; it was to stop coloring it so often. As you can see in this photo, her gray is NOT completely covered. It’s still there, but with a little tonality. This will blend much softer with her regrowth versus a harsh line of demarcation. This should allow my client to push her appointments out an additional 2-4 weeks.
