Year of 40: My Dearest Sister,

As I reach another milestone, I can’t help but feel your absence more than ever. It’s been a journey of heartache and growth since I lost you at the beginning of my 30s in 2014. Our birthdays, always shared on March 26th, were a bond that transcended mere dates on a calendar. With an eight-year age gap between us, you were not just my sister, but my guiding light, and my closest friend.

The pain of losing you at the tender age of 38 is a wound that has not fully healed. For the past two years, a heavy cloak of guilt has shrouded my heart, weighing me down with the knowledge that I’ve surpassed the age you were meant to reach. It’s something I carry with me daily, especially now as I approach my 40th birthday, knowing you never had the chance to celebrate your 48th.

As I embark on this new decade of my life, I find myself yearning for your presence more than ever. I hope you can see the person I’ve become, the obstacles I’ve overcome, and the accomplishments I’ve achieved. I hope, wherever you are, that you are proud of me, proud of the person I’ve grown to be in your absence.

I take solace in the knowledge that your love transcends time and space. You are with me always, dear sister, guiding me, comforting me, and reminding me to cherish every moment.

Until we meet again, know that you are deeply loved and sorely missed.
