Hello Fall Vibes 🍁

This is so good and so true!

Raise your hand if you check your client’s scalp + neck + ears for skin abnormalities? 🙋🏼‍♀️ Keep it up your awareness has lead to a client being diagnosed with skin cancer 🙋🏼‍♀️

In 2016, while cutting my husband’s hair, I noticed an odd shaped and colored mole on his neck. After calling attention to it and encouraging him to make an appointment to get it checked out, he was immediately referred to a skin cancer center and diagnosed with melanoma in an early stage. While I had suspicion that this mole was possibly problematic, I had no idea just how serious it was. Had I not been paying attention to a very small but irregular skin spot, he would have never seen the darkened, slightly raised mole (turned out there was multiple problematic areas) and could have never known of the cancer growing. This is just one of many unfortunate instances I have personally been apart of for the early detection of skin cancer on the scalp, ears, and neck because of my vantage point while doing hair.

May is skin cancer awareness month. May is also the start to the season where so many of us are living outdoors. As a hairstylist, I feel strongly that it is my obligation to be hyper aware of the area most people don’t consider checking for potential skin cancer threats- our heads! I possibly annoy some guests by asking them about *any* odd or concerning areas- even if I’ve asked them about it before. If I see an issue I let them know to immediately seek attention. For skin cancer a small, visible spot the size of a pen head can be a matter of life and death.

Know your ABCDE’s!
✨Asymmetry: Does it have an odd shape on one side?
✨Boarders: Does it have an uneven boarder?
✨Color: Does it have varying coloration?
✨Diameter: Is it bigger than a pencil eraser?
✨Evolution: Has it noticeably changed in any way?

Normalize regular skin cancer checks on your client’s heads and potentially save a life! (This also applies for all of us in the beauty industry! Hands + feet, face, etc).

Short —-> Long

This client had previous ktips that were not installed properly. We removed the old ktips and installed new ones as well as added 145 grams of Bellami Hair machine tied wefts. 20” of blonde is exactly what this client needed 💁🏼‍♀️

✨Full Hair Make Over ✨

We started by removing her old and improperly installed extensions. I reinstalled all new volume wefts with K-tips on the sides for extra coverage. Next I lightened her ends and glazed for an all over refreshed blonde.

Perfection 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
