May is skin cancer awareness month ☀️🧴

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, but it’s also one of the most preventable. Daily use of a broad-spectrum SPF helps protect against both UVA and UVB rays, which are known to cause DNA damage that can lead to melanoma and other skin cancers.

Having 5 or more sunburns in your life doubles your chances of developing melanoma. And people who use tanning beds have a 70% increase of developing skin cancer.

Skin cancer screenings should be done at least 1x a year or if you’ve had more then 5 sunburns should be done 2x a year starting as early as age 18.

Moffitt Cancer Centers has made it easy for residents of Tampa and surrounding cities to get screened for skin cancer with their Moffitt Mole Patrol - which is a mobile screening program that travels to different events around tampa to do free skin cancer screenings.
