Bread Crumbs “Growing in Grace” June 3

God's Word exhorts us as believers to grow in both the attributes of grace and knowledge. Most of us already understand how to go about growing in knowledge. For one, we have the Word of God available for our personal study. The believer should be spending some time there each and every day learning its content. Each time we open the Bible we grow in the understanding and knowledge of our God and His magnificent wondrous redemption plan. Every time we go to a Bible preaching Church and the Pastor preaches truth, we grow in knowledge. But the question must be asked, "How then does a person grow in grace?" How do we increase in something we cannot work for, earn, labor for, or deserve? As we learn to rely exclusively upon Christ and His Cross, we find grace (in the form of the Holy Spirit's help and power) that flows more frequently. As we become more reliant upon the Lord we mature into dependence. This approach to faith brings a steady increase in the amount of grace we will receive. To grow in grace means that I am to ever see my desperate need for the Lord. That need must be greater today than it was yesterday!

2 Peter 3:18 - But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Everybody has questions about heaven—what will it be like? What will we do there? In the book of Revelation, we see glimpses of glory. John writes, “After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.” John goes on to record, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away… And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass …And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” The best part is—every bit of this is true. Heaven is real.

Bread Crumbs “Faith and Grace” May 24

Grace through faith is the only process by which God works in an individual’s life. Grace is not one of many processes by which God works but rather it is the only process by which God participates with the human race. God will not allow us to earn, work for, labor, or bargain for His grace; that would invalidate the very meaning of the word. Help from God that is not freely received and freely given does not qualify as grace. One aspect of the grace of God towards man is the moving and operation of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit operates in the earth today as the spiritual overseer of God's redemption plan. He is here to both distribute and oversee the benefits available to the human race for which Christ died on Calvary. The Holy Spirit has the potential to bring to us everything that Christ’s death paid for. This “grace” will only flow unhindered and free when the believer’s faith is placed in the proper biblically designated object, the person and work of Christ. Therefore, true Bible faith will always maintain Christ and His finished work as its object. Faith in anything else is faith that God will neither recognize nor honor.

Romans 4:16 - Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

Over the years, I’ve heard from people who don’t know the Lord, but they think they are right with Him, enough to make heaven, no problem. They’ll come right out and tell you, “I’m good with God.” If you ask them how they know that, they’ll say, “Because I’m a good person. And the reason I’m a good person is because of what I do. My good outweighs my bad. The good things I do are bigger than the bad things I do.” This brings to mind the Pharisee who stood in the temple praying really to himself, “God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.” That Pharisee was a self-righteous, conceited, bragging example of what religion will do to a person. Compare his attitude to that nearby publican who wouldn’t even look up to heaven, saying, “God be merciful to me a sinner.” Doing good things for the wrong reason is sin. So when people wonder, “Why don’t the good things I’m doing count with God?” It’s because you’re doing those good things to “deserve” or “earn” salvation, and God doesn’t accept that. The only thing God accepts is your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did for us on the cross.
