Found this and thought it was worth sharing.

Let’s talk about nail prices. 💅🏼

Some people see a $100 set and think, “Why are nails so expensive now?”

But maybe the better question is:

Why did we ever expect the person doing the work to carry the cost?

The nail industry was built by hardworking women, many of them immigrants who worked incredibly long hours to create a better life. Over time, extremely low prices became “normal,” even though the skill, time, products, overhead, and physical demands of doing nails never became inexpensive.

Behind every service is a person.

There are products.
There is rent.
There are licenses and insurance.
There are tools and equipment.
There are hours spent learning and perfecting a craft.
There is wear and tear on the body.

And there is a business owner trying to make a living, too.

Affordable doesn’t have to mean undervalued. And charging fairly doesn’t make a nail tech greedy.

When you pay a fair price, you’re not just paying for pretty nails.
You’re supporting someone’s skill, time, livelihood, and future.

So instead of asking, “Why does it cost so much?”

Maybe ask:

“What has this service been worth all along?”

💗 Respect the craft. Respect the time. Respect the person behind the service.

I have to remind pedicure clients of this with their feet too!

I found this statement from another nail tech (Angel Torres) and it hit home. I used to dabble a little with nail art but found over time it is not what I like to do most. I love doing color over the whole nail. Especially colors with a shimmer or glitter. Nail art has changed so much since I started 23 years ago and I am happy with keeping things simple. I guess I'm a little more old fashioned in that sense but those who can do the nail art of today are doing great work.

"Being good at ART and being good at NAILS are two completely different things.

Most clients do NOT care if you can paint a turkey holding a banana on a nail. They care about whether you can apply your product properly, create a clean cuticle area without drowning it in oil for the photo, and most importantly, build a strong foundation with CLEAN, CONSISTENT SHAPING.

Nail art is a PLUS. It is NOT the foundation of the nail industry.

Somewhere along the way, social media blurred the lines between being a talented nail artist and being a talented nail technician. They are NOT the same skill.

The truth is, MOST clients are not walking into salons asking for cartoons, portraits, or elaborate paintings on their nails.

They want CLEAN application.
They want proper STRUCTURE.
They want consistent SHAPING.
They want RETENTION.
They want nails that actually look professionally done."

Hello everyone. I have not been good about posting and I'm hoping to change that. I am not looking to post every day but more then every 2 years. 😆 This week the salon will be closed Wed July 15 and Thur July 16. My daughter is showing her dairy animals those days in our 4-H county fair and I am required to be there to help get the animal ready and to cheer her on. Stay cool as its going to be a scorcher this week and drink plenty of water.

The salon will be closed Fri Jan 12. Be safe everyone.

With the weather conditions expected to get worse as the day goes on I have decided to close the salon for today, Tues Jan 9. Be safe everyone.

My 2023 calendar is almost fully booked. If you do not have your appointments booked through December, I cannot guarantee there will be an opening. I would highly suggest you make the rest of your appointments ASAP!

If you do not have your appointments booked through Aug I highly recommend you do so. I am fully booked April and May. June only has 5 openings left, July has 8 openings and Aug has 4 openings.
