Learn Self-Care for Curly Hair from the Original Curlyologist. For many people having curly hair is

Want to know how to stop your curly hair from shrinking so much?
It is not so much about product(s), and more about how you do it. So we all know that heat affects the hair. If you put products in after your hair dries completely what that does is pull your hair down. If you put the diffuser on a blow dryer set on high and pull the hair down to stretch it while moving the dryer up and down, and up and down the hair -- what that does is to just relax it a little bit. That is one way to do it. The other way is to use a product like Cezanne™. It lasts anywhere from 3 to 6 months. There is something about this product that if you use it for three or four times it does seem to change your curl pattern so all in all it can be a great product to use.

So, you're wondering if there is a math equation for curls. Something like (Wet curly hair length is equal to "X" dry curly hair length).
There is no mathematical formula to explain the change in length between wet and dry curls. It's different for each person, and it depends on three factors: 1.) the porosity of your hair, 2.) the elasticity of your hair, and 3.) It depends on your curl type. An example would be if your curly hair is really, really, really tight and coily, it’s very porous and also its elasticity is nice and strong - meaning that it’s not damaged by heat or chemicals. Then yes the shrinkage can be a lot. Again, it's different for each person, and again it depends on those three factors.

Are some curly haircuts better than others for keeping my hair length?
Yes, there is one style and I do not recommend it. That is a blunt cut where the upper layer, the longest hair, the top layer of the hair makes up the length. The blunt cut is the only way to wear your hair to keep the hair length that you would desire because it flattens, and weighs the hair down.
So many people love long hair, but does long hair love you back like it should? Most of the time if I have a face that needs framing a shorter length is better. Remember shorter hair makes you look 10 pounds lighter, a couple of inches taller, and a lot happier. There is a benefit to not just focusing on long hair, instead focus on the style. That is what sets you apart. If you ever choose to put layers in you will lose some length, but layers are very beneficial for curly hair styles. Long hair should not be used as a blanket to hide behind, your hair is supposed to be your crown so don’t cheat yourself. Remember people are looking and focusing on your face and noticing your smile from the minute you walk in.

Guess what’s back? Brocato Holdon Gel! Come on in and grab a bottle.

Did you know that caring for your curls in the fall is different than in the summertime?
In summer your hair is much more exposed to the sun rays and the harshness of the sea salt from the beach or chlorine from the pool. Generally, those elements lighten the hair, and the ends are going to be a little tired so I would suggest that you start using leave-in conditioner. If you use Brocato Holdon styling gel, change it twice a year. In the winter time I like to add a little more conditioning. Also if you get your hair colored we should tone the color down too as we move into the fall and winter.
