We are officially 9 months into our sweet Tasha’s recovery today, and our girl continues to amaze us with her incredible positivity and progress! ✨💖

Even though she is still having daily seizures and convincing her she’s getting the right medication is a daily struggle ⚡, Tasha is making some really wonderful physical gains.

She has really stepped up in advocating for herself! She can now feed herself the majority of her meals 🍎, and one of the most exciting milestones — she has walked all the way from therapy back to her room using her walker on several occasions! 👣 Even Tasha is incredibly proud of herself for this! We’re also thrilled to share we are done with diapering 🙌 Last week she got her hair colored, and if you know Tasha at all, you know how happy that made her! 💇‍♀️💕

After 9 long months, we are so grateful that Tasha was finally approved for Medicaid! We’re praying this opens new doors for her to get more therapy and the support she needs.

One thing Tasha is very hopeful about is attending the Cooters Cruise and Poker Run benefit in Vincennes, Indiana on July 11! She’s already reminded me about it several times 😂❤️ We want to extend a big invite to all of Tasha’s warriors — let’s come together and make this her biggest event yet!

It’s been 8 months today since our sweet Tasha’s hernia surgery, and every single day we see more of her beautiful light and personality shining through again ✨💖 Her memory is still sharp as ever.

She’s still completely dependent on others for all of her care, but she’s making those tiny, hard-earned strides in physical therapy 🌟 She can now sit up in bed on her own and feed herself most foods 🍎 In therapy, they’ve been working on taking steps with a walker, though she still needs full assistance 👣 Her right arm remains the weakest and causes her pain, so it takes a lot of gentle encouragement for her to try using it 💪

We recently learned that Tasha is dealing with something called word blindness. While she can recognize most uppercase letters, her brain isn’t able to process words right now 📖 — another challenge as she works to relearn how to read.

On the more difficult side, even though Tasha is almost divorced, she’s still being denied disability and Medicaid 😔 Her sister, who is her legal guardian, filed the application back in November. It’s taking a very long time for them to review all of her medical records, so she’s had no insurance since January.

To make matters even tougher, Tasha started telling us over four weeks ago that she was having seizures ⚡ She shared this with the nurses that evening and again during the family care meeting, but her concerns were dismissed and she was even made to feel like she was being delusional.

After three long months of searching, we finally found a neurologist willing to do virtual visits. Our fears were confirmed — Tasha has been experiencing daily seizures while awake for some time now.

Tasha bravely spoke up for herself during the appointment and told the doctor she’d been having seizures. She also shared how she’s been made to feel like she’s “too needy.” For the first time in a while, she felt truly heard ❤️ She now has real trust in her new neurologist.

It breaks our hearts that she has to feel this way — completely handicapped and trapped in her own body, while also being made to feel like a burden. Of course, she has a few truly exceptional caregivers, but it’s hard when the ones who care the most can’t be there all the time.

Tasha is feeling lonely and starting to get bored again 😔 We’re reaching out to anyone who loves and cares about her — please come visit if you can!
