Majority of the time I get the vibe and I get the color right on the first try 😛 BUT there are times where you have something in your head and the things that I try just aren’t QUITE it.
It’s usually one of these things:
☝🏼 You have a staple color but it’s not quite the same with your spray tan
✌🏼 Your lips pull warm/cool and the product can look different once it’s applied (our main issue here)
🤟🏼 You’re not used to lipstick so any color just throws you off
And let me say, as a former non-lipstick wearer AND someone who is VERY picky about my own lip color, I get it!!
I know the right color can make or break your look, and I’m committed to trying until we get it RIGHT 👏🏼

If you’re not improving then your rates shouldn’t either 👋🏼
Just being a makeup artist for “NUMBER” of years doesn’t constitute an increase in rates IF you’re not actually doing anything to improve your kit or skill set.
✨ You don’t have to do EVERYTHING on this list at one time, but at least 1 of these should be happening before you raise your rates:
👉🏼 Invest in education each year👈🏼
This could be online OR in person. No one is ever too good to learn new techniques or business strategies, and if you’re not willing to invest in yourself, then why should you expect others to invest in you?
👉🏼Upgrade products in your kit👈🏼
This doesn’t mean you need luxury products! BUT your rates should, to some degree, reflect the products you have in your kit. If I’m advertising as a luxury MUA, my kit should OVERALL reflect that.
👉🏼Practice new techniques on models👈🏼
Cliche to say, but practice makes perfect!! Our clients deserve to get our best, and our best can’t happen if we don’t put in the work.
👉🏼Have a contract and/or booking platform👈🏼
This is a GIVEN. A contract not only protects you, but it also protects your client. If you want professional rates, present yourself as one.
👉🏼Consistently need to turn away inquiries👈🏼
This is as basic as supply and demand! If your services aren’t being demanded, then a higher rate won’t fix that. Work on getting faces in your chair (see models above) and showcasing your work to attract new clients.
Look I am ALL FOR raising your rates ✊🏼 I’ve raised mine every single year I’ve been in business, BUT I’ve also done all of the above to varying degrees before doing so.
Yes, keep up with inflation and figure out what your base rate should be to at least turn a profit. Anything other than that should be ✨EARNED✨

This is how I organized a bridal party of 17 with ✨ZERO✨ scrambling or chaos throughout the day:
• I took the bride + 8
• My second artist took 8
• My assistant did lashes + lips
Lindsey and I would do full faces up to the lashes and lips, then we’d send them over to Kelsey to get completed!
This allows us to complete each look in 30 mins rather than 45 which ADDS UP 👏🏼
My assistant Kelsey is also there to help with touchups at the end as well as my second artist Lindsey as she’ll likely finish before me.
Brides: when I say I got it, I GOT IT 🫶🏼 I’m wildly comfortable handling large parties and will absolutely take the reins while you get to set back and relax!

It’s less about the amount of product and more about building dimension and being intentional about placement. The formula of the skin products ALSO matters!
The complexion products I used were intentionally chose to give depth and evenness to the skin rather than adding actual coverage - which she also has!

Am I fired???
Ok hear me out ☝🏼
1. I I like to FEEL your skin because it tells me A LOT. You might say you’re oily but the second I touch your face I realize that you’re just dehydrated. The products I choose make a difference!!
2. Using my fingers to apply shimmer eyeshadow is SO MUCH BETTER than using a brush. A lot of times a brush doesn’t pick up as much pigment underneath the shimmer where my finger grabs onto it all 👐🏼
3. No more buying THOUSANDS of sponges a year after switching to these 3 complexion brushes 😛 Comment ✨BRUSHES✨ and I’ll send you my faves!
4. TIME SLOTS DON’T WORK. Sometimes makeup takes less/more time depending on the request (same for hair). So there’s times where I finish someone early but Tiffany doesn’t think she needs to be ready for 30 more minutes and is nowhere to be found. Instead of keeping the flow moving, I now have to wait until she gets there. 👩🏻🍳 just let me cook and I promise your day will go smoother!
5. I like to be efficient, so by doing the brows WHILE the lash glue is drying, I’m able to do 2 things at once! Very rarely do I need to do brows first, and it saves me A TON of time.
What do yall do that would send other MUAs into a tailspin???
