A new website from the folks at AiM at Melanoma.
AIM at Melanoma has launched a sister website in the fight against skin cancer. SkinCancerInfo.org aims to help people understand nonmelanoma skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, with millions of cases diagnosed each year. It’s also one of the most preventable cancers and highly treatable when found early. Here you will find extensive information to help you prevent and find skin cancer, along with information to help you make informed treatment decisions. https://skincancerinfo.org/

SkinChecker campaign encourages you to check your skin for signs of skin cancer, and educates how to better protect and play safe in the sun. If you care for...
May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month... a cause that is near and dear to my heart. I'm going to share lots of info this month to help support awareness.
In 2020 it is estimated that 100,350 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with invasive melanoma. This number is entirely too high, and each year the number grows. We know that sun exposure is the main risk factor for melanoma. We know that regular use of sunscreen can significantly reduce the risk of developing melanoma. To raise awareness about the importance of using sunscreen every time you step outside, AIM is kicking off a year-long public awareness campaign called Step Out Against Melanoma. To help all of us all take action, we are gathering 100,350 signatures over the course of a year from people pledging to wear sunscreen every time they step outside. Help us kick off the campaign by signing the pledge, and equally as important, share it across social media and help us spread the word about the importance of wearing sunscreen! #stepoutagainstmelanoma SIGN & SHARE THE PLEDGE: https://www.change.org/StepOutAgainstMelanoma

Vaughan's is one of my favorite local farms! They are planning to open for U-Pick Strawberries in a few days. Here's their recent post with info. I'm looking forward to doing something "semi-sort-of-normal".....
We are opening our U-pick strawberry fields for early season, light picking. Days and times will vary depending on weather and berry ripeness. Next week the berries should be further along and will be better for heavy picking.
Below is a list of what we will be doing differently this year to keep you and us safe during this time.
We have been in close contact with specialists at VDAC and Virginia Tech Extension to help us determine the best ways to incorporate the CDC guidelines. To that end, we are implementing the following this year:
1. If you are sick, stay home. You will not be allowed in our fields. (We love you, get better and we will see you soon!)
2. We will be observing Social Distancing in a variety of ways including in the fields. Hands must be cleaned before entering the fields, masks are encouraged. Absolutely NO sampling the berries in the field. (Farmer Jen is wearing a mask to pick just so she won’t pop one in her mouth 😂).
3. This year, you must use our containers. This was a tough decision, and we will reevaluate at the end of the season for future years. But in order to limit the contact we have with customers, weighing buckets has been eliminated. We have containers in two sizes: 4 quart buskets ($15 to fill) and 2 quart baskets ($8 to fill). You will save $1 off buskets/baskets if you bring ones from home that you have previously purchased from us.
4. It has been suggested that paying with cards is better than cash.
5. We will have prepicked quarts of berries in the farm stand, and we can bring them to your car if you call us ahead to let us know you are coming.
6. There will be no samples this year – SORRY we know you love that about our farm, but it is absolutely forbidden this year.
7. Reusable bags cannot be used at this time. (All this not recycling is not making us happy either!)
Stay tuned as we will post updates regularly and feel free to call for up to the minute field conditions.
It’s going to be different this year, but the strawberries are so worth the trouble! Stay safe and we’ll see you down on the farm!
This is happening at noon. Maybe a replay will be offered.

WHAT IF home quarantine was a BLESSING???
Most of us will inevitably find ourselves stuck in home quarantine soon. This experience will fall along a spectrum of inconvenient to catastrophic, depending on our individual circumstances.
What if, instead of making it even worse by lamenting the hardship and boredom of this weird time in history. instead, we assumed it is a blessing in disguise? What if we could use this unexpected gift of time to rejuvenate our lives, discover new passions and do those things you never have time for?
Here's is a list of ideas. PM us your email address if you'd like the PDF version with embedded links.
