Caregiving: Sharing My Experience ❤️
Episode: The Reality of Pre-Grief

One thing people don’t talk about enough is pre-grief—the grief that begins long before your loved one passes away.

As a caregiver for my grandmother, Magdaline P. Thames, for nearly 10 years, I found myself grieving in stages. I mourned the little things first… the conversations that changed, the independence she lost, the traditions we could no longer enjoy the same way.

When she passed, of course it hurt deeply. But I’ve often reflected on how those years of loving, serving, and simply being present helped prepare my heart for a reality I knew would eventually come.

Time didn’t erase the pain.

It didn’t heal the wound.

But it has helped me learn how to live with it.

That’s the difference. Sometimes healing isn’t about forgetting—it’s about learning to carry your love and your loss at the same time while continuing to live a meaningful life.

If you’re walking through pre-grief today, cherish the moments you still have. Say the things you want to say. Ask the questions you’ve always wanted to ask. Take the pictures. Record the stories. Love them well.

One day, those memories may become some of your greatest comforts.

💬 Have you ever experienced pre-grief while caring for someone you love? I’d love to hear your perspective. Share your thoughts in the comments, and if you know someone caring for a loved one, share this video with them. They may need this reminder today. ❤️

Caregiving: Sharing My Experience ❤️
Episode: 3 Things You Can Buy to Support a Caregiver

After caring for my grandmother, Magdaline P. Thames, for nearly 10 years, I learned that caregivers don’t just need encouragement—they need practical support.

Here are 3 thoughtful gifts that can make a real difference:

🍽️ 1. Food. Send a meal, grocery gift card, or meal delivery subscription. It’s one less thing for them to worry about.

💆🏽‍♀️ 2. Personal care services. Gift services like haircuts, grooming, manicures, diabetic-friendly foot care, massage therapy, or other mobile personal care services that come to the home or care facility. It gives their loved one a boost and the caregiver one less responsibility. We proudly provide these services throughout the DMV. www.NailsFacesofJoy.com

🧻 3. Everyday essentials. Wipes, gloves, Depends, lotion, socks, nightgowns, toiletries, and other daily necessities. Better yet, set up a monthly subscription so they never run out.

Sometimes the greatest gift isn’t expensive—it’s making a caregiver’s day just a little easier. ❤️

Caregiving: Sharing My Experience ❤️
Episode: The Song That Got Me Through

During my 10-year caregiving journey with my precious grandmother, Magdaline P. Thames, there were days when I felt completely drained.

Financially.
Physically.
Mentally.
Emotionally.

As a self-employed caregiver, there is no clocking out. You’re often the default person everyone depends on. While raising my children, loving and supporting my family, running my businesses, and caring for my grandmother, there were moments when I didn’t know how I was going to make it through another day.

But one thing I did know was this:

My grandmother was going to be okay.

That was my mission, and I refused to fail her.

Even as a soldier in the Lord’s Army, I had moments of weakness. In those moments, I leaned on God’s promises, and one song became my refuge…

🎵 “Perfect Peace” by Marvin Sapp.

That song reminded me that God would renew my strength, calm my mind, and give me the peace I needed to keep showing up.

Sometimes God speaks through His Word, and sometimes He ministers to our hearts through a song.

If you’re a caregiver today, I pray you know that you’re not alone. God sees every sacrifice, every sleepless night, every tear, and every act of love that no one else may ever see.

What song has carried you through one of the hardest seasons of your life? I’d love to add it to my playlist. Share it in the comments—you never know whose spirit it may lift today. And if this message encouraged you, please share it with a caregiver who could use a little hope and encouragement. ❤️

Caregiving: Sharing My Experience ❤️

One thing I’ve learned during my 10-year journey caring for my 94-year-old grandmother, Magdaline P. Thames, is that caregivers need care, too.

If you know someone who is caring for a loved one, here are 3 FREE things you can do that don’t cost a dime but can mean the world.

❤️ 1. Give words of encouragement.
Write a simple note, send a text, or make a quick phone call just to say, “I’m proud of you,” “You’re doing a great job,” or “I’m thinking about you.” Those few words can provide the encouragement they need to keep going.

🏡 2. Help with everyday chores.
Offer to do a load of laundry, wash the dishes, organize a stack of papers, or clean out a closet. These are everyday necessities that often get pushed aside when caregiving becomes the priority.

☕ 3. Give the caregiver a break.
Spend time with their loved one so the caregiver can step away for a little while. Or sit with both of them and give the caregiver an opportunity to talk, vent, laugh, or simply enjoy an adult conversation. Maybe even bring a deck of Uno cards and create a moment of joy together.

Caregiving can be physically exhausting and emotionally overwhelming. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give isn’t money—it’s our time, compassion, and presence.

💬 Call to Action: Are you a caregiver, or have you cared for someone you love? What was the most meaningful thing someone did for you? Share your experience in the comments—it may encourage another caregiver who needs to know they’re not alone. If this message touched you, please like, share, and tag someone who could use this reminder today. Let’s support our caregivers together. ❤️

A new series that’s deeply personal to me. ❤️

For nearly 10 years, it was one of the greatest honors of my life to help care for my precious grandmother, Magdaline P. Thames, who lived a beautiful 94 years before peacefully passing in February 2025.

Caregiving is one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do, but it can also be one of the hardest.

There isn’t a manual that prepares you for the emotional, physical, and practical challenges that come with caring for someone you love.

In this series, I’ll be sharing what my family and I learned along the way—the tips, routines, lessons, mistakes, resources, and small things that made a big difference. These are not professional caregiving instructions, but real-life experiences from someone who walked this journey for a decade.

If my experiences can make another caregiver’s journey a little easier, then sharing them is worth it.

If you’re currently caring for a loved one, have cared for someone in the past, or know someone who is, I hope you’ll follow along. You’re not alone, and I hope these conversations encourage, educate, and support you.

Thank you, Granny, for the love, wisdom, and legacy you left with all of us. This series is dedicated to you. 🤍

💬 I’d love to hear from you. What caregiving topic or challenge would you like me to discuss in this series? Leave your questions in the comments, and I’ll answer as many as I can based on my family’s experience. If you know someone caring for a loved one, please share this series with them—they may find comfort, encouragement, or a helpful tip along the way.
