Donors for Greg Thornton

Hi everyone, hopping on to give you an update. We have finally made it home.
So far the new kidney is doing good. Numbers are trending down like they should. We didn't know till this morning that while in there they also took care of a small hernia located at his belly button.
He says he's feeling good. Medicines have changed and some been added.
We thank each and everyone of you for your text, calls, well wishes and most importantly, your prayers.
Please continue to pray for us in the coming months.

Greg has had his surgery and is back in his room resting. The doctor was pleased and said it went well. He and I are glad to know it wasn't from the tare that he had to repair in the new kidney.
Now to just get stronger. He only got one unit of blood last night but may not need the other unit at all.
Thank you all for your prayers and he thanks you too.
Pray for his patience to wait out the getting stronger part. He has been truly defeated, feeling as if his recovery was never to happen.
I believe now he will be on track and have a better outlook.

I want to try and bring all of you that are wondering and lifting up prayers, an update on Greg.
If you know him well or work with him you may know how stubborn he is, lol.
On Sunday afternoon I had to be his ambulance and driver to Greenville er.
As of this morning they have found blood clots in both legs and have drained lots of fluid off his abdomen through a tube they had to insert.
They do believe this afternoon they have decided on the cause and their plan as of now is to do a surgical procedure on Wednesday to help his body absorb any other future extra fluid.
After draining this fluid they tell us they are very sure it didn't damage the new kidney.
As for the blood clots, they plan to dissolve them by medication.
They tell us neither of those things were a cause of the other, just two different things going on simultaneously, now that could change tomorrow, lol.

Well everyone the day we've been waiting on has finally arrived!! We got a phone call last night around 9 to tell us to come to Greenville hospital because they had a kidney on the way here and it should be a good match for him.
They took him back at around 8am this morning.
Thr kidney does have a tear in it and will have to be repaired, but they every reason to believe that it should be repairable and he ok.
Please keep Greg, myself( nerves ) and all his doctors and nurses in your prayers.
We appreciate your prayers.

I should also mention tomorrow is Greg's birthday and we couldn't think of a better bd gift!!

Update on Greg's kidney journey. So we had an evaluation in Greenville for their transplant list back in September I believe. We've been waiting since then to get results. They did find an elevated level in his bloodwork they were not happy about that wasn't their in April when Augusta did their evaluation. So... another test was done and it was still evalated. That led to them saying we had to see another doctor to rule out cancer which could be a cause for this high evaluation. They originally gave us an appointment in December but we said noway, can't wait that long. So we finally got one for this past Monday and this doctor says he doesn't believe there is any reason keep him off the list and did further testing to say he also doesn't believe it is cancer. So we finally found out Thursday that, YES, HE HAS NOW ALSO MADE THE GREENVILLE TRANSPLANT LIST!!!
To say he is relieved is an under statement. Now, he has decided that Greenville will be his primary list and Augusta his secondary.
With 2 list we are hopeful his chances of getting a kidney will move faster.

Hi everyone, I wanted to jump on here and give an update. Greg's surgery yesterday went well.
The fistula looks good and he is glad to have that done and over. After a good night's sleep Greg has felt pretty good today.

Hi everyone, don't forget to be praying tomorrow at 1, Greg's surgery time.
We also finally just got a call from Greenville Hospital we have been waiting on since November 22. They ask for us to come for an evaluation on the on the 26th to be able to go on their list.

All right everyone, Greg is scheduled for his fistula surgery on Friday, September 8th. We don't have a time yet but it will be done at Easley Hospital.
His kidney surgeon in Augusta had great hopes that he would not get to the stage of needing dialysis before getting a kidney. He predicted Greg would have one by December.
But they are getting him ready since his kidney function has dropped to 14%.
The surgeon that will do this surgery says he has every reason to believe that it should go well.
Please keep him in your prayers and especially on the 8th.

Hi everyone, lastest update on Greg. We are getting ready for dialysis. Not sure when that might be but it's getting closer. He will be meeting with a sergon on the 28th to discuss his fistula operation as he has decided to do hemo dialysis. For those that don't know what that is, it is the kind where you go to a clinic 3 days a week and are hooked to a machine that draws out you blood, cleans it and puts it back.
As of now, yes, he is still working and we are still waiting on a kidney.
Since we have now made the list in Augusta we are waiting for an appointment to travel to Charlotte and see a team of doctors there to make that list also.
His fistula surgery should be sometime next month as it needs plenty of time to heal before being used.
Also, a side note, please pray for me as my back is out and going on 2 weeks. Lots of pain but still working.
Keep Greg in your prayers and get the word out we need a kidney.

Hey friends, update on Greg. Augusta called and HE MADE THE LIST!! We are now waiting on the next steps we have to take. Not sure what that will be. Mom, his mom or sister never made it this far so this part is nothing we know about. We're just thankful to God and all our friends lifting us up in prayer to have passed all the test and say, yes, he can recieve a kidney!!
Please spread the word far and wide that kidney donors are needed.

Hey friends and family, just want to give an update on Greg's kidney journey.
He did get a call from Augusta yesterday and they are asking for the next step, which is more testing. They are waiting for some results from some of his current doctors and an ok to put to sleep from his sleep doctor since he is using a c pap.
A stress test, some other test and a brain scan are the next steps. I did ask him if he had questioned, if they didn't find a brain would that keep him off the list, lol🤣. He didn't seem to think it was as funny as I did.
Anyway they are going to try and get those test set up for him to do locally and not have to go back right now to Augusta to do. We'll have to wait and see.
