Another favorite product arrived on our order today - this is the one we order every time. It’s the vegan protein powder in chocolate. My kids use it all the time as breakfast or after a workout. I love that the cranberry, rice and pea protein is highly digestible and provides a complete amino acid profile without any nasty ingredients. We consider this part of our grocery budget. Do you use protein powder??

I love finding an Arbonne box on my front porch and today, my most recent Arbonne order included our favorite products. Here’s one of them - the anti-aging skincare line that I’ve been using for 11 years. I love how gentle it is on my sensitive skin but how effective it is at the same time. No nasty ingredients, pure, Swiss skincare. Do you have a skincare you love?? The price dropped on this one and, for the month of July, you get the Genius Ultra FREE when you purchase the set. 🤗

Are you exercising regularly?
I’ve had a fickle relationship with exercise over the years. I’m always consistent - I either exercise regularly or I do nothing. There’s really no in between with me. How about you? What’s your history with getting regular exercise? We all know that regular exercise is important for our health but making it part of our weekly routine can be challenging, especially during years when we are parenting because we tend to focus on taking care of everyone else first. Can you relate?
Here’s what’s worked for me over the years…
1) Figure out your patterns or tendencies around exercise. Have there been times when you exercised consistently? What circumstances lead to commitment? For me it’s always been joining a good gym. I’m frugal, so if I’m paying for a membership, I’m not going to waste any money by not using it. At 50, I know myself pretty well and, when I look back, I see patterns. When time or finances made a gym membership seem out of reach, I’ve tried walking, running, and watching free yoga videos, but unless I’m paying and being coached by a teacher I either don’t do it or I only do it half way. Do I wish I was more disciplined? Yes. But I know myself and what has worked for me historically. Currently, I belong to a Bar Method studio which keeps me extra accountable because you need to sign up for class ahead of time. If I miss a class without cancelling at least 45 minutes before it, they charge me $10 - and, you guessed it, I don’t want to waste $10. The financial commitment has pushed me to be consistent. Work with your personality and history.
2) Create a habit. Setting a goal can help you create a routine. I like to aim for working out DAILY. If my goal is 7 days a week, I know I’ll hit at least 3-4 days. ( My real goal is 3-4 days but I need to psych myself up for thinking about going daily.) Once I’m in the habit of thinking about exercising every day, I have a better chance of doing it. The habit makes it easier. As long as you see yourself as “a person who is thinking about exercising regularly”, it will take will power to do it. But when habit makes you “a person who works out”, then you are powered by that new identity and resistance can’t win.
3) Overcome resistance by creating little steps. This idea comes from Brooke Castillo who runs coaching programs for weight loss. She recommends setting small incremental goals. Instead of putting, “Workout” on your calendar, put “Get dressed in workout clothes”, “Put sneakers by door”. We have less resistance around these little steps but they move us closer to actually heading out the door to exercise. If I have my workout clothes on and I’ve packed my water bottle, I’m that much closer to going.
We all want to be perfectly disciplined - to work out consistently within our budget with our own will power, but creating a new habit sometimes takes fooling ourselves or at least working around our unique personality and the kind of resistance that we face.
What works for you? How have you found success in the past with exercising regularly?
