The future of salon education and professional products.

One of the biggest things I teach is understanding the "why" behind what we do.

Healthy hair starts with the cuticle. It's made of keratin, it's your hair's first line of defense, and it's affected by everything from chemical services to pH. If you don't understand how the cuticle works, you're missing one of the most important pieces of the puzzle.

There are no one-size fits all formulas in this industry. Every client has different hair, different cuticle layers, and different needs. That's why I teach stylists to stop relying on myths and start relying on science.

When you understand hair chemistry, you make better decisions behind the chair and your clients see the difference.

Gray coverage is one of the biggest services we do behind the chair, but it is also one of the most misunderstood.

In this clip from Color Me Perfect, we talked about why stylists need to stop looking at every gray coverage client the same way. Not every client should leave with the same neutral brown formula. Some clients need warmth, some need neutral, and some need cool.

When we automatically reach for the same levels, the same N series, and the same developer, we can end up creating the exact complaints clients come in with: it pulls warm, it fades brassy, or it just does not feel right on them.

Gray coverage is not just about covering white hair. It is about looking at the whole person: their skin, their eyes, their natural category, and what tone is actually going to make them look and feel their best.

This is why education matters. When you understand how to formulate with intention, you stop blaming the brand and start asking better questions about the formula.

One of the biggest takeaways from Color Me Perfect is that not everyone should be colored the same way.

In this clip, Sonja is teaching about the categories people are born into and why understanding those categories can completely change the way you formulate. Too often, we jump straight to bleach, toner, or gray coverage without stopping to ask what the hair is naturally trying to do.

A client who was born blonde will almost always want to feel blonde. A natural redhead will often feel most at home in softer, golden tones rather than the intense reds many stylists automatically reach for. Even clients with white or gray hair still belong to a category, and their skin tone, eye color, and natural features continue to guide the best color choices for them.

This is the kind of education that helps stylists move beyond simply applying color and start creating formulas with intention.

Thank you to Sonja for sharing her knowledge and to everyone who joined us for Color Me Perfect. The conversations and lightbulb moments throughout this class were incredible.

Shine is great. Protection is even better. βœ¨β˜€οΈ

SOMA Prism is one of our featured products in the June/July Sale because summer is one of the toughest seasons on hair color. Between UV exposure, heat, and time spent outdoors, color can fade faster than ever.

This lightweight, alcohol-free shine spray delivers instant gloss while helping protect the hair from environmental stressors that can dull color and compromise shine. The result? Hair that looks healthier, feels softer, and keeps its color looking vibrant longer.

If you're looking for an easy retail recommendation that adds shine and helps protect your clients' investment in their color, SOMA Prism is a summer essential.

At Lisa Kelley Hair, we're passionate about teaching the why behind the color.

Understanding the natural hair category your client was born into can completely change the way you approach gray coverage, tone selection, and color services. It's these deeper conversations and concepts that help stylists create more personalized results and build greater confidence behind the chair.

This is what brand-free education is all about giving you the knowledge to make informed decisions, no matter what products or color lines you use.

One of the biggest lessons from Color Me Perfect is that being a great colorist is not just about knowing formulas.

It is about understanding chemistry, texture, tone, and most importantly, how to truly listen to the client in your chair.

In this clip, Sonja breaks down something every stylist needs to remember: clients do not always have the same language we do. When they say β€œbrassy,” β€œtoo dark,” β€œtoo warm,” or β€œwashed out,” they may not mean what we think they mean.
That is why visual consultation matters so much.

The more we can slow down, ask better questions, and show clients what we mean, the better we can create color that actually works for them.

This is what Color Me Perfect is all about: helping stylists think deeper, consult better, and create more intentional color behind the chair.
