What about HAES when you’re on vacation? Awareness can be hard to maintain when you are out of your regular routine. My experience is that once “mindful eating” is grooved as part of your interior life, it becomes automatic, something you want and value.
This is me and my husband, Barry Glovsky on our way to Panama for a big adventure! I’m holding onto my “mindful eating” on a cruise.

Motivational Interviewing helps your client know you understand them and "get" them, with accurate empathy. We strive to understand our clients and their struggles with food and body issues. Letting people know you really GET them goes a long way in helping them to make their own decisions about health behavior change.
I'm very interested in the use of Interviewing and Health At Every Size. HAES encourages us to be accepting and non-judgmental of others' body shape and size. MI also encourages acceptance. These work beautifully together! Check it our
Health At Every Size is about ACCEPTANCE of yourself whatever size your body is right now. Life won't begin sometime in the future when you lose weight. Life is RIGHT NOW. Your body is the size it's supposed to be, and we can work to keep ourselves as healthy as possible at the size you are right now.
Ambivalence is a key concept in Motivational Interviewing. Most of us are ambivalent when faced with change, t,hat is you feel two ways about something. "One one hand this, but on the other hand, that." Ambivalence is GOOD, it means you're not saying "no, never" buy "maybe". Helping people to work through their ambivalence and face changing behavior is the focus of MI.
