Sunblock vs Sunscreen

Though used interchangeably-there is a difference. Is one better?

Mineral based sun protection is also known as Sunblock. It’s a physical mechanism for shielding our skin by blocking/reflecting harmful, and damaging UV rays. The main ingredient used in this type is zinc oxide. It’s my personal choice, and recommendation for sun protection.

Chemical based sun protection is known as Sunscreen. Oxybenzone, octinoxate, and avobenzone absorb UV rays by converting them into heat, and releasing them from the body. Oxybenzone is associated with skin irritation such as allergic dermatitis. It’s also associated with potential to be an endocrine disruptor which can affect hormone levels, and its potential impact on children and reproductive health.

For these reasons I choose to use sunblock. A few favorites of mine:

-Locally made, Heaven on Mainstreet Sun Protection

-Forah Mineral Sunblock

-Lightsaver tinted sunblock

Remember to wear sun protection everyday. Your skin will thank you. I also recommend wearing a hat during the suns peak hours (10am-3pm) especially if you’re on the beach etc.

Lastly, always remember to stay hydrated.

Honey as a cleanser 🌸🐝

The season for sweet golden nectar is approaching.

Bees have emerged from hibernation. Beginning to forage as the warmer weather has arrived, and flowers are blooming 🌼

Dating back to the ancient time of Cleopatra…honey was incorporated into her beauty rituals as face masks, and in baths with milk.

Honey is a humectant, therefore it draws moisture from the air to your skin-keeping it hydrated.

It’s also anti bacterial, and anti microbial. Therefore, excellent for treating acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It’s highly enzymatic and a powerhouse for healing-extremely beneficial for sensitive skin.

Wonderful for balancing, and restoring your skins microbiome which becomes imbalanced from harsh products and environmental stressors.

A personal nighttime ritual of mine is to use honey as a cleanser:

First, massage a quarter sized amount of raw honey onto the face using circular motions.
Rinse with luke warm water, and pat dry. Follow with an Astarte Evening Star Serum or your favorite moisturizer.

My Astarté Evening Star Serum is an all organic blend of Evening Primrose Oil, Jojoba Oil, Local Wildcrafted Yarrow Infused Virgin Olive Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, and Essential Oils of Bulgarian Rose, Geranium, Bergamot, and Roman Chamomile.

A time for renewal and new beginnings.

As we emerge from the Winter season…we look forward to the hope of Spring.

Feeling ourselves eager to come out of dormancy and bloom. Much like a garden needs tending, our bodies benefit from the same loving care.

Diamond Microdermabrasion cleanses and manually exfoliates dull dry winter skin, with an actual diamond encrusted tip. This treatment encourages and speeds up the process of cellular turnover. I’m always astounded at the resilience of nature. Witnessing flowers and plants coming back to life with proper care reminds me how we can resurrect our bodies and illuminate our skin through hydration-giving us a renewed glow and new life.
