Loc Care PSA from Your Master Cosmetologist ☺️

I’ve been doing natural hair for over 9 years, and I don’t usually say I “specialize” in locs… but let’s be real, locs are what I do every single day. So here’s a friendly reminder:

Just because you have locs doesn’t mean they don’t need care.
Treat your locs like you would any other style:

• Stop letting them sit on top of your head with no protection.
• Cover your hair when you sleep, shower, or work in dusty/dirty environments.
• If you sweat in your head, let your hair dry completely and then separate your locs.
• Smokers: cover your hair locs hold onto smells.
• If you’re not seeing your stylist regularly, shampoo at home. Ask which shampoo is best for you (everyone’s hair needs something different).
• If you love heavy oils or products, keep a good cleansing shampoo on deck it helps prevent unnecessary detoxes.
• It’s OK to tell your stylist if you prefer certain products, especially medicated ones.
• And yes… it’s okay to trim your locs.
• Guys, make sure your barber isn’t cutting into your locs during lineups.

There’s a big misconception that getting your locs done too often makes them thin. The truth? Thinning can come from tight styles, buildup, waiting too long between maintenance, genetics, and more.

• Rose water? Spraying it constantly only makes your hair frizzy ,it’s not hydrating your locs.
• Loc brush? You wasted your money. It’s just making your hair frizzy too.

Listen to your stylist. Educate yourself. Take care of your locs.
They don’t always have to be “done,” but they always deserve proper care.

At the end of the day… locs are still hair.
