Remembering Doug McLeod, a truly unforgettable soul and master hairdresser who worked late into the night since 1982 at Designs Unlimited. Doug’s appointment cards simply said, 'Doug cuts my hair,' and that never changed—just like the loyalty of his clients, who always waited patiently because Doug was never on time.
Doug had a bench outside, his signature spot, where he’d enjoy a cigarette rain or shine and share some of the wildest, most unbelievable stories you’ve ever heard. His charm, humor, and unique way of connecting with people made him one of a kind.
Doug, you’ve left behind more than just great haircuts—you’ve left a legacy of laughter, memories, and love. Rest easy, and may your bench always have a perfect view.

A letter from Nickie:

“I met Doug when I was very young, and at the time, I had no idea we would spend a lifetime together—nearly 43 years. When I named the shop Designs Unlimited Haircare, I never realized it would not only be a beauty shop but also a place where we would become family. Doug, along with all of us, are Designs Unlimited.
Designs Unlimited was Doug’s second home. He was there three days a week, and you could always count on him. He might have been a little late at times, but we kept his clients company while they waited. Eventually, he would show up—with a coffee in one hand and his duffel bag in the other. Doug was never sick and never missed a day.
He was a storyteller! I think his clients kept coming back not only for the great (and long) haircuts and styles but also for the stories. He loved his music and dancing. And if you never saw him in a suit and tie, you missed out!
Doug and I were together through it all. He was there when I was single and wild, there when I got married and had babies, and there when my babies got married and had babies of their own.
One of my favorite stories about Doug happened one winter when we had so much snow the plows had piled it up as high as mountains. Doug walked me to my car behind one of those snow piles. As he turned to walk back to the shop, I slipped and fell into the snow. I was screaming for him to help me, but he never came back! He didn’t hear me! When I told him and Gabe about it the next day, they both thought it was hilarious. I, however, did not! Lol
Douglas—my “work husband,” as I called him—you will be truly missed, not only by your clients but also by all of your beauty shop family here at Designs Unlimited Haircare.”

To Doug’s family- Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Thank you for sharing Doug with us for the last 43 years.
