Some people put a microwave in their break room. I’m putting an entire business in mine. Fig + Fare will have a dedicated space for platter orders here. Because apparently, my idea of taking a break from one business, is walking right into my other business.

The original tin ceiling at 217 is prepped, primed, and ready for its next era. Naturally, I’m giving a ceiling with this much personality a considerable amount of thought.

We’ve been digging into the history of our new building, and the newspaper clippings we’ve found (thanks Bruce Uhler!) have made 217 N. Holden feel even more special!

In 1894, it was home to a grocery store. By the 1930s, the address had served as a polling place, and was welcoming customers to Mrs. Anderson’s Catering Shoppe for freshly made ice cream. In 1941, it opened its doors as the Grover Gift Shop.

Different businesses, different decades, and so many ordinary moments that became part of this building’s story.

Food, gifts, and a place for the community to gather—this building has spent more than a century giving people reasons to come downtown.

Now it’s our turn. We’re bringing new life to the space, while keeping all the quaint details that give it its character. As we renovate, I keep thinking about the people who walked through these doors before us.

We’re preserving the details that have lasted, while making room for something new, and I’m so excited that Onyx Skin Studio gets to be part of what this address becomes next!

My job includes being a facialist AND an unofficial mattress consultant. When clients ask for the link to the treatment-bed topper, I consider that a compliment.

I put an unreasonable amount of thought into what happens before the first product even touches your skin. Getting comfortable shouldn’t take half your appointment. The details aren’t extra—they’re part of the treatment!
