Why Diets Fail: #2

You aren't eating enough!

Yes, you read that right. A big reason a diet fails is because you may not be eating enough!

The two biggest complaints I hear most often for why someone did not succeed was they were either "tired" or "hungry". Both of these can attributed to not eating enough.

It is true that a caloric deficit must be created to lose weight, but when too large a deficit is created, it can lead to lack of energy, increased hunger, increased muscle wasting, and metabolic adaptation.

When starting a diet, ensure you are creating a caloric deficit but don't go ultra low on calories to ensure greater adherence and long-term success.

Why Diets Fail: # 1

YOUR GOALS AREN’T CLEAR

When determining caloric need, you must first determine your end goal.

When determining your goal, you must pinpoint exactly what you are trying to achieve, whether that be losing body fat, gaining muscle, or improving performance.

Only a very small percentage of the population will be able to successfully achieve all of these at the same time.

To improve results, choose one and tailor caloric intake and macronutrient breakdown according. This will lead to more reliable long-term results.

🥚🍳🥚🍳

Are eggs bad for your heart?!

This is an argument that has been going on for years and will most likely continue for years to come.

In previous years, it was dietary cholesterol in the egg that was demonized for causing heart issues. However, as the FDA stated when they removed the daily dietary cholesterol limit, there is a lack of evidence showing dietary cholesterol causes heart disease.

In addition to the cholesterol, the saturated fat in eggs has also been credited for causing heart disease. A meta-analysis in the British Medical Journal found no association between high levels of saturated fat and heart disease.

Several studies even suggest that dietary cholesterol and saturated fat can be protective of heart disease and point to trans fat as the culprit for heart disease.

Whether you believe saturated fat and cholesterol cause heart disease or not, you can’t deny the nutrient density of eggs. Many credit egg yolks as being “nature’s multivitamin”.

So in my opinion, no, eggs are not bad for your heart. But as always I encourage people to review research and come to your own conclusions.

What is your stance on eggs?

🍫🍫🍫

Yes, you read that right. Chocolate is good for you!

Unfortunately, it is what most companies add to their chocolate products that are not as healthy.

Cocoa has several proven benefits, including decreased insulin resistance, improved blood flow and blood pressure, and possible protection from cardiac event.

Cocoa is also an excellent source of magnesium, copper, iron, and fiber as well as being packed with antioxidants.

When choosing chocolate products, opt for dark chocolate varieties with a cocoa percentage of 70% or higher. Additionally, try to avoid products with added sugar, trans fat, or soy.

So enjoy chocolate in moderation, just be aware of what else is coming with it!
