Her first week I taught her how to put extensions in. She made me an inventory list another week. I showed her a new way to style her hair this past week and she’s even came out golfing with me!
She’s growing at incredible speeds. Not only is she showing up with a smile on her face ready to learn, she’s confident and accepting of my criticisms. She appreciates what I’m teaching her. She’s soaking it all up and ready for more. I couldn’t be more proud of you madelinebuland! Thank you for lighting my fire again! I’m so excited to help and watch you grow!

Today marks 10 years since Cassie’s Classic Cuts moved into this historic train depot—and wow, what a ride it’s been.
This space has seen first haircuts, wedding mornings, big life changes, tears, laughter, and so many conversations that mean the world to me.

22 years ago, I didn’t even think about
the “C C C”—
what it would become,
or what it would mean.

I didn’t have a plan. I just knew it was the next step.
Of course, I dreamed of owning my own salon.

At 21, you don’t have fears or second guesses.
You have drive, passion, and the belief that anything is possible.
You don’t think about the ups and downs ahead—
the happy moments, the heartbreaks,
the memories that will shape you.
You don’t see it until you look back years later
and realize it’s become your whole world.

All I ever wanted was to do great hair.
Never to be “the boss.”
I wanted to lift my team up—
if they succeeded, I succeeded.
I always wanted to give them the world,
because their ideas and vision inspired me.
I loved leading in that way.

And then one by one, they left
to chase bigger dreams and new chapters.
How could I blame them?
That was me too—
always wanting more, dreaming bigger,
hoping we could do it all together.

The truth is, I’ve lost some really incredible relationships,
coworkers, and employees over these 22 years.
It’s changed me.
It’s changed my day-to-day.
It’s changed how I run my business.
The world changes.
People change.

When I bought this business 22 years ago,
I probably shouldn’t have led with my heart first.
Business first, right?
Well… I’ve learned that lesson the hard way more than once.
But honestly, leading with my heart
is also what’s gotten me this far.

I’ve loved people enough
that many still come back.
I appreciate them.
I’m thankful for what I have,
and for the ones who truly see me.

It’s always bittersweet to see a team member grow and spread their wings. Brooke has been a wonderful part of Cassie’s Classic Cuts over the past year — bringing her creativity, talent, and kindness to our salon family. I hope I’ve given her all the knowledge I possibly could!
