TRIM HAIR SALON

For our last community spotlight during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we want to highlight TRIM HAIR SALON in Adams Morgan. We are so honored to be one of the recipients again of , their initiative to foster community through monthly engagement with various organizations that work to support women throughout our community and beyond. Thank you for your continuous commitment to engage with the local neighborhoods!
There hasn't been anything "typical" about 2020, except the HER community coming together! From DC to Baltimore the HER team is delivering holiday cheer to the ladies of HER throughout the week. We weren't sure we would be able to make it happen during the pandemic but we don't stop! Thank you to the businesses and individuals who were able to help us make this happen: Mercedes Ortiz-Olivieri Colorist/Stylist and her team at TRIM HAIR SALON, The Midtown Group, DC, Baltimore Hon Hive, and Gina Shaefer and her Logan Hardware, Canton Ace Hardware and Waverly Ace Hardware stores!
Today we are giving a special shout out to TRIM HAIR SALON. Each month, this DC based salon donates a portion of their sales to a local nonprofit. Last October, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, TRIM partnered with DC SAFE for this initiative. Thank you TRIM for showing solidarity with survivors and your ongoing community support!

“Our back initiative spotlights and supports local organizations that support women in our community, supporting DC SAFE was an obvious fit for us. They’re well respected in DC for the great work they do, and we personally know women who’ve used their services and are eternally grateful.” – TRIM Hair Salon

They’re doing it again! TRIM HAIR SALON is donating a portion of sales in the month of October to HER. Go by, get a fabulous haircut and/or color, buy some product and support the woman owned small business that is doing exactly what she said she would, supporting other women in our community.
UPDATE: We were saddened that this weekend we leaned Meghan is no longer with us. We hope she is in peace and pray for her family.

DC and Surrounding Area Friends:

As many of you know, HER has a Street Outreach team, engaging with individuals experiencing homelessness and/or human trafficking. At the beginning of this week our outreach team met with a woman who traveled here from Australia in search of her missing daughter (Meghan Godfrey), who was recently sighted in Washington D.C. last Friday in Union Station, Washington D.C. near Gallery Place. The daughter is in a vulnerable state, had her wall/ID stolen, and is currently living on the streets. We have been unable to locate her since Friday. Pictures of her are below in the hopes that perhaps one of you might have seen her more recently.

There is already Union Station security, Washington Metropolitan Police Dept., Amtrak PD and street outreach collaboration, but obviously the more eyes on the ground we have, and the wider we spread the word, the more likely we can reunite this mother and daughter. The daughter did send her mother an email 2 weeks ago asking her to come take her home...that she is "ready to go back." That is why her mother is here. She is 27 years old and, being an Aussie, speaks with an Australian Accent. Her name is Meghan Godfrey.

Please share to any local networks that you might have. *Her mother is not going to leave until her daughter is found.

Hi! My name is Mercedes and I own TRIM HAIR SALON | DC]
Many of you may know that my entire family is from Puerto Rico.
I have struggled to write this post because of the intense frustration over the post-Fiona response and lack of coverage about the devastation in Puerto Rico. I could (and often do) go on and on about it.
The areas that were most damaged by the 2020 earthquakes, were also hit the hardest by Fiona, compounding existing damage.

My most immediate family are safe, some still do not have water and/or electricity, a few in the mountains had landslides in their barrio and we haven’t been able to make contact as of yet.

Boricuas need support, and the federal and local governments aren’t giving much.
You know who is? Small, local grassroots organizations that are packing up and delivering food + water, distributing household supplies, cooking meals, replacing damaged furniture, providing clothing, cleaning, fixing and rebuilding homes, supplying solar electricity and generators, and providing medical services.

These trusted organizations are tagged in the photo as well as will be listed in the caption below. Every few days we will be highlighting them in our stories and TRIM HAIR SALON | DC] will be donating a portion of retail sales to each organization each week.

Please join us in supporting these organizations! Show us proof of your donation over $25 and receive 10% and retail purchase!

Want to further your support? Please share this, post about your donation, and watch anything produces and amplify the message.

THANK YOU 🇵🇷🫶🏼

Mercedes loves getting creative freedom with a little direction, they discussed the wonders of a curly pixie mullet and went for it! Cut on clean, lightly hydrated hair with Milk as a cutting lotion, then hydrated with water and set with Moisture Lock under the dryer.
