Meet some of the women from "mybodytree's communities".

Shea is nicknamed “Women’s Gold” in Ghana because it generates businesses traditionally driven by women in rural communities. The shea tree, which grows well in northern Ghana, has over the years supplemented families’ livelihoods and helped pay for food, medicine and children’s school fees. Women pick the fresh shea fruits, process them into nuts and butter, and sell their products. Shea business contributes to more than half of some households’ annual income. Locally, processed shea butter is used for food, cosmetics, soaps, detergents, medicine, cultural and religious purposes. Globally, processed shea butter primarily goes to the food industry, and the rest is used in personal care products (hair treatment, body-moisturizing creams, anti-ageing creams, insect bite treatment, etc.)

With our current operations in 42 communities of Northern and Upper West regions of Ghana, mybodytree plans to ensure continuous, reliable, and sustainable livelihoods of 1,792 individuals in the shea value chain made up of 23 agents and 1,769 women shea nut producers with a projected annual production of 650MT of high quality shea nuts and 200MT of shea butter targeted at international markets.

Our social impact activities will foster entrepreneurship for women and youth and improve their livelihoods in their communities.
