Mr. Charlie's, the Los Angeles vegan burger brand nicknamed the vegan McDonald's, has already sold more than 25 future locations across the United States through franchise deals, and it is pressing ahead with full national expansion. It started with a single Hollywood storefront in 2022 and built a cult following on its red-and-yellow look, its upside-down frown logo, and parody menu items like the Not a Cheeseburger, Frowny Fries and Mr. FluffHead soft serve.

What began in LA now reaches San Francisco, San Diego and Sydney, with new outposts planned for Austin and Atlanta and an 18-store deal already signed for Arizona.

President Adam Wilks says the appeal goes beyond diet, pointing to a recognizable brand and a mission built around second chances. Cofounder Taylor McKinnon, who was once homeless on the streets of LA, has woven that story through the company from the start.
