During her school days, she used to dress up and style her friends and other classmates with items that were no longer viewed as useful. She styled their hair for birthday parties, weddings and large scale events. In fact, while stationed overseas in the United States Marine Corps, she gathered her own pocket money by offering braiding, styling and hair cutting services to her fellow troops and military wives. While in college she also styled hair for parties, graduation ceremonies and various engagements. However, it was only after a visit from her best friend at her corporate job that she realized she could turn her hobby into a career. She was encouraged to go to school by her friend who exclaimed during a quick visit to her office, “This is NOT what I envisioned when I think of you at ‘work’. Over the next few days and conversations she eventually saw her hobby as being lucrative. Initially afraid that she’d ruin her love for hair by turning it into an obligation she replaced that with the age old adage, ‘If you do something you LOVE, you’ll never work a day in your life.’ She immediately enrolled at Paul Mitchell The School.
