Like life itself, milestones embody a studied mix of time, chance, risk, luck, exhilaration, contemplation, evolution and an earnest will to reminisce on the many stones and stubbles that paved the path. Year Ten has met us dynamically- full of hope (and strategic vision) to expand our ministry of the whole-being - hair, wellness and wellbeing.

With each guest, each service, each conversation, each podcast share, each book recommendation, each plant propagation, each life moment - the births, deaths, career shifts, personal style evolutions, the joys, the crises, the wins and loses, together we have grown.

In the past decade, Taylor & York (& You) have jointly…

Chartered unfamiliar territories.
Started New Journeys, often meaning Finishing Others...Closing Chapters. And Demanding Doors Open. In All Areas Of Our Lives And Through Color, Texture Play and Cuts.

Loved Self Without Condition. Or Rather, Did The Work, Daily, Toward That End.

Presented Our Whole Selves…Especially When It Frightens Us Most. Led The Way As Guide. And In Equal Measure, Followed In Blind Trust.

These Are Among The Things That Make Us, Us.

This is Taylor & York (& You).

Hair remains “one of the single most persistent acts of cultural conservation in the history of the world". Hair is our medium. We are thankful for your patronage, your trust.

Over the next month, you’ll learn more about our 2023 Vision and opportunities to Support Our Growth.

Here's To Year Ten.

In Service,

Ashleigh B. Taylor & Team T&Y

I’ve followed Jay-Z for years .. YEARS!

I’ve spent so much time following his work and it’s always been a source of inspiration for me. But his recent news was really something to marinate on and to reflect on and I want to share my thoughts with you - I want to hear yours.

Have you noticed that how society perceives artists is often framed in a very palatable way, something that the consumer can understand? America runs on corporate gas and you can feel that in how we consume art.

Many artists present one way to society and another in their craft. But a few artists rise above that, follow the beat of their own 🥁, AND make a living out of it.

Jay-Z is that artist, he is influential and he commands our attention. The way he presents himself is - I’m going to do what I want to do and ya’ll are going to follow me. It’s powerful and it’s relatable to me as a professional in the beauty industry because people follow us and we set the tone for so many trends but it’s equally as important to have an incredible business acumen because when you’re an artist it’s not natural to all of us to use that side of our 🧠 - we just create!

But when you marry those sides of your brain .. change happens. Significant change happens! The type of acquisitions that Jay-Z is making is setting the tone for generations of artists to come! It’s lit a 🔥 in me in that I’m inspired to create - with a purpose with an end goal.

This acquisition is a big win for Jay-Z but also for me, for our community, and for artists as a whole. Because it inspires us and it moves us. It forces us to think about how art meets corporate and pushes us to reimagine our relationships and partnerships.

I think about these lyrics often — “I would have stood on the sidelines if ya’ll would have tackled the sh*t yourselves.”

Instead of complaining about something that wasn’t serving him, he did something about it. Jay-Z didn’t waste any time posting and sharing his plans, he’s not even on social media! But he knows that our culture has the influence and that everyone leans on Black creatives for inspiration and entertainment.

Tell me! 💬 How did this make you feel?!

In my previous post I shared a few tips with you on foil placement. Well, here’s how we finished!

>>My clients hair was already lightened so all I had to do really was a root touch up. She did however “want some POP!” 🤣 and that’s what I gave her!💁🏽‍♀️.

**per my previous post** the foils I placed around her face gave her enough lift and dimension to create the POP! Lifted (10v) and toned with 8/86 color touch Demi-permanent 👌🏽

When They go low..we go high 😉.

>>In this case we play with both. Lowlights and highlights against a shadow root are always a fun pairing I like to join together. With the proper complimenting tones of color it works well.

>> : As a colorist, my day becomes a little bit easier when beginning with levels 5/6 🙌🏽. Swipe ⬅️ to see what I mean!

I have bad hair days too! And Lord knows yesterday was one of those days .

>>With everything I had on my plate I just didn’t have the time, AND I had three zoom consultations to prepare for .
“Put on some gold hoop earrings and Wear your mom’s old scarf Ashleigh !”.. Make it a “moment “..and i did 👌🏽💁🏽‍♀️.

>>I know that jewel tones compliment my complexion very well so I decided to accentuate that.
My suggestion to you—the parent ..the executive..the person that juggles many many tasks throughout the day : find that confidence in yourself and accentuate the positive. Let’s face it, zoom is here to stay. The normal routine and how we present ourself is forever changed.

>>Step outside of your “normal” hair routine. Try something different. Encourage your clients to explore and welcome change and to feel comfortable with it.

>>My resident style maven ALWAYS has thee best ideas for accessorizing ones own style and I’m sure can provide some excellent alternatives for the busy gal and guy! (Monica, can you share some suggestions?)

>>What are some things that YOU do to switch up your hair routine ??

01/12/2021

Just A little bit of lift and a whole lotta tone 👌🏽.

>>If I were to only address her root it would actually still look like a dark root—no depth no texture. I added a few woven and solid panels of lightener to break it up 👌🏽.

Is this you 🤔?

>>We get asked this question a lot and I’m glad we do. When asked about protein trtmts for your hair it signals there’s a relationship you have with it—you care about your hair and want it to be at its best. There are free radicals inside and all around us that can eat away at our hair: artificial heat, chemicals, stress, too much curling/flat ironing to name a few. Below you will find a few quick and easy references I put together for you to be able to determine for yourself.

>>A few signs you may need a protein trtmt : poor elasticity, hair is dull/dry, limp/lacks luster, breaking and or shedding..

>>A few natural sources of protein: plain greekyogurt, eggs, manuka honey , castor oil, some sources of collagen , coconut oil..

>>What should I use? We have a few trtmts we highly recommend and Trust at the salon but when looking for OTC products, be sure to look for antioxidants, keratin, and amino acids to name a few in the list of ingredients .

>>Even though protein is necessary for great hair, don’t Over do it. Too much protein is counterproductive and may cause your hard to break. We recommend having your hair treated @ every 7-10 wks . Yes there are trtmts that can certainly be performed in your home but we HIGHLY recommend having a professional care for your hair 😉✌🏽.

New Year. New Energy.

>>I’m going to get straight to the point : Cut your hair 💇🏽‍♀️. Release the old and welcome in the new.

>>Hair holds emotion. Hair holds memories. If you don’t like what you’re experiencing-change it. Have you ever changed your length and noticed the new people you attracted..the different way you felt about yourself when you woke up that next morning ?! Well that’s Bc your energy had shifted your atmosphere .

>>When my mother passed away last year I finally made the decision to act on this cut I’d been pondering for nearly 1 whole year . I’d been comfortable with my length and was resistant to the change I knew a h/c would bring . Well, 9/12/20 changed that ✨🕊🙏🏽. Aprox 2wks later I pushed “go” with no hesitation..grabbed my sheers and ✂️✂️ my own hair. INSTANTLY I felt new..recharged. So much began to change for me.

>>Sometimes change can be uncomfortable but I suggest to consider the other side of that discomfort and trust there is a new part of you that has been waiting to be ignited.

**To all clients scheduled with me for the next 2-3 months: guess what conversation we’re gonna be having 🤔💇🏽‍♀️🤣😉🙏🏽.**
