Some moments remind you just how much can change.

In May 2023, I surrendered to authorities on a probation violation. It wasn’t because I had all the answers—it was because I finally made one clear decision: my life had to change.

I could never have imagined that just a few years later, I would be standing at CSOSA, recruiting for the Georgetown Pivot Program and encouraging others to take advantage of the same kind of opportunity that helped transform my own life.

That’s what full-circle moments look like.

My journey hasn’t been perfect, but every challenge, every setback, every lesson, and every act of grace has shaped the man I’m becoming. Recovery, reentry, education, entrepreneurship, and service are no longer separate chapters—they’re all part of the same story.

To anyone who feels like their past has already written their future: it hasn’t.

One decision can change the trajectory of your life. One opportunity can open doors you never imagined. And one person believing in you—including yourself—can make all the difference.

I’m deeply thankful for every experience, because each one has prepared me for this moment and for the work still ahead.

Thank you to the Georgetown Pivot Program, CSOSA, and everyone who continues to invest in people, not just their past.

The best chapters are often written after the hardest ones.

I’m excited to share that tomorrow at 10:00 AM I’ll be appearing before the Council of the District of Columbia at the John A. Wilson Building to testify as the Mayor’s nominee for confirmation to the Commission on Re-Entry and Returning Citizen Affairs.

This moment represents far more than a nomination—it’s a testament to the power of redemption, purpose, and the belief that lived experience can help shape better policies and stronger communities.

I’m grateful for everyone who has supported, encouraged, and believed in my journey. It is an honor to have the opportunity to serve the District in this capacity, and I look forward to sharing my testimony and vision for advancing opportunities, dignity, and successful reentry for returning citizens.

Praying for a smooth testimony and a successful confirmation tomorrow.

Moving in purpose is something else entirely.
I used to look at my story - reentry, recovery, mental health, housing instability - and wonder why. Who could’ve imagined that every one of those pains was quietly becoming preparation?
Recently, there was one of those days that reminds me: I could not have orchestrated this.
We fulfilled seasonal hygiene backpacks to Pathways to Housing DC - and if you know, you know what it means to hand dignity to someone who’s been told they don’t deserve it. Kia, you are absolutely awesome - thank you for the partnership and all that you pour into this work. And Kelvin, thank you for the connection that made this moment possible.
I also had the privilege of signing consent with my first 3 men navigating life transitions - connecting them to the resources that can change trajectories. Full circle doesn’t even begin to cover it.
And yes - we cut some hair out there.
Look Good. Feel Good. Do Good.
Those words landed differently that day. Men in the community heard my story, and something shifted. Relationships were built. Interest was sparked. That’s what this is really about - not clipboards, not programs. Relationships.
I am so grateful for this season. For every divine connection and provision I didn’t earn but was gifted for the purpose hiding inside the pain of my lived experience.
This is a God thing. And I’m just grateful to be walking in it.

Today was bigger than giving haircuts, hygiene kits, and body slings—they were simply the doorway. The real goal was building trust, assessing needs, and connecting our neighbors to resources that can change lives.

Grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with community leaders who understand that service is about people, not just programs. A special shoutout to James Robinson of CapKuttz for being more than a business owner—a true community steward with a servant leader’s heart.

Days like this remind us that when we come together with shared values and a commitment to serve, we create real impact and lasting relationships. Here’s to continued collaboration, compassion, and meeting people where they are.
