I know Dolly was special to so many people for so many reasons. But for hairdressers, there was something especially meaningful about Dolly. When she played Truvy in Steel Magnolias, she showed the world something those of us behind the chair already knew: It was never just a beauty shop. So much of that movie—and those women’s lives—happened inside that salon. Different ages. Different personalities. Different stories. Yet week after week, they gathered in the same room. They laughed. Celebrated. Gossiped. Gave back to their community. They walked through weddings, babies, marriage, motherhood, friendship and eventually unimaginable grief. Somewhere along the way, they became family. Tell me that isn’t the salon. For generations, salons have been the original community room. We see people at their best and their worst. We hear news before it becomes public. When someone sits down and says, “I need to tell you something…” we know the hair may not be the most important thing we do that day. We watch children grow up. Celebrate babies and marriages. Hear about the diagnosis and the divorce. Mourn people we’ve had in our chairs for years. We collect money. Support fundraisers. Feed families. We show up. And somewhere between the shampoo bowl and the salon chair, bonds are formed that last a lifetime. It becomes a safe place. A place to exhale. A place to belong. A place where somebody knows your story. That’s what Steel Magnolias got so beautifully right. It didn’t make the salon special. It showed the world what hairdressers already knew. And I can’t imagine anyone more perfect than Dolly standing behind that chair. Warm. Funny. A little sassy. Welcoming to everybody. Right there in the middle of her community. Yes, Truvy did hair. But what she really did was love people from behind a chair. Hairdresser to Hairdresser, I think that’s why so many of us saw a little of ourselves in her. Truvy’s was sacred. Not because of the hair. Because of the relationships. And Lord, what a beautiful thing that we get to call a place like that our work. 🩷🦋 #hairdresser #dolly #salon

Here are a few pictures of what she did for her mom. One before and the others are after. They changed up her hair color making it a beautiful darker red tone while covering up the grey. It looks fantastic! Awesome job Bre!!! 💇🏻‍♀️❤️

To My Wonderful Clients,

After many tears, prayers, and long conversations with my family, I have made one of the hardest decisions of my life.

After 50 years behind the chair, I have decided to retire.

This decision has not been easy. I have loved every day of taking care of all of you. Many of you have been with me for decades, and over the years you’ve become much more than clients. You’ve become dear friends and an important part of my life.

As many of you know, my mother now needs full-time care, and at this stage of her life I need to be there for her. Family has always come first, and now it’s my turn to care for the woman who spent her life caring for me.

While I am retiring, the salon is not closing. We have three wonderful hairstylists and a talented nail technician who will continue providing the same quality of care you’ve come to expect. I have complete confidence in them, and I know they will take great care of you.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for trusting me with your hair, your stories, your laughter, and sometimes even your tears. It has truly been an honor to be a part of your lives for the past five decades.

I will miss seeing each of you more than words can express, but I leave with a heart full of gratitude for the friendships and memories we’ve shared.

Thank you for allowing me to do what I have loved for 50 years.
