You do not need to come in with a diagnosis or a theory.
My job is to help you slow the guessing down. We look at your history, what changed, what I can observe, what you’ve already tried, and whether there are still questions that need testing or another provider’s input.
Sometimes the most useful outcome from a consultation is not a treatment recommendation. It’s finally knowing what deserves attention next.
That’s what my Restoring Roots consultation is for. Booking is linked in my bio when you’re ready.🌿
There is a lot of work that happens before I ever make a recommendation.
I’m currently deep in my advanced trichology studies, taking notes, revisiting the science, and learning how to look at hair and scalp concerns with more context.
Because when someone sits across from me worried about shedding, thinning, scalp changes, or a ponytail that suddenly feels different, I don’t want to reach for the quickest answer.
I want to understand what I’m looking at.
What’s changed.
What information we already have.
What we may still need.
And when something deserves another professional’s input.
I don’t expect myself to know everything.
I do expect myself to keep learning when people trust me with something this personal. 🩷
That’s a big part of how I approach my Restoring Roots consultations.

Okay, guilty. 😂
I probably care a little too much about the tiny details.
I want to know when you first noticed the shedding.
I want to look closely at what’s happening on your scalp.
I want to compare what we’re seeing now to what we saw before.
And yes, I’m probably going to get very excited when you tell me something has finally started feeling better. 🩷
Because when someone sits in my chair worried about thinning, breakage, itching, shedding, or changes they can’t explain, I don’t want to rush straight into recommending the same thing I’d recommend to everyone else.
I want context.
Sometimes that leads us to home care. Sometimes treatment makes sense. Sometimes testing gives us more information to work with. And sometimes I want you having a conversation with your healthcare provider before we do anything else.
That’s why I care so much about the consultation piece.
You don’t have to walk in already knowing why your hair is changing. You just need a place to start asking better questions.
If you’re local to Wasilla and you’ve been wondering whether what you’re noticing is worth looking into, Restoring Roots is the appointment I’d start with. 🌿
And yes, I will absolutely inspect your scalp longer than most people would consider normal. 😂
I think losing Dolly hit differently for those of us who grew up loving Steel Magnolias. 🩷
I loved the big hair, Southern sass and Dolly being… well, Dolly. 😂 But most of all, I loved Truvy’s beauty shop.
It was more than a place to get your hair done. It was where women gathered to laugh, celebrate, cry and walk through life together.
Years later, I became a hairdresser and built my own little Beauty Cottage here in Alaska. After 17 years behind the chair, I understand Truvy differently.
Because it’s never just about the hair.
I’ve celebrated marriages and babies, shared exciting news, and sat with clients through diagnoses, divorces, loss and grief. We’ve laughed, cried, prayed and built relationships I’ll carry for the rest of my life.
That’s why I’ve always wanted The Beauty Cottage to feel like more than a salon…a place to exhale, feel safe, be heard and show up exactly as you are.
Dolly gave the world so much, but this Alaska hairdresser will always have a soft spot for Truvy. Long before I built The Beauty Cottage, she showed little-girl me something I wouldn’t understand until years later:
A beauty shop can be a sacred little place.
And goodness, am I proud I grew up and built one of my own. 🩷
Rest easy, Dolly. Thank you for the music, laughter, faith, generosity and for giving so many of us behind the chair a little piece of ourselves in Truvy.🥰
I didn’t become a hair practitioner just to talk about hair restoration. I became one to walk the walk.
And this is six months of doing exactly that.
Before kids, my hair had more density. Over time, that changed, and my hair started feeling thinner and less like the hair I remembered.
So I took what I’ve learned and studied and applied it to my own hair.
I stopped chasing quick fixes and started looking at the bigger picture: my scalp health, what was happening inside my body, and what my hair actually needed.
My routine included daily red-light therapy, consistent scalp care, and targeted support from the inside out. Not a random product or a one-size-fits-all solution. A plan built around my specific needs.
And I stayed consistent, even through surgery and recovery, when I experienced very little noticeable shedding.
Now, I have new growth throughout my entire head. More fullness. More density. And hair that’s starting to feel like mine again.
If you’re struggling with hair loss or thinning hair, start by paying attention to your scalp, changes in your health, and what may be contributing. Talk with your doctor when needed, build a routine around your needs, and give it time.
Hair restoration takes consistency, and you deserve guidance from someone who understands the journey firsthand.
Comment ROOT and I’ll send you more information about where to start. 🌱🌿

If you’ve been asking me about it, thinking it over, or waiting for a better price, there’s just ONE WEEK LEFT to save $650! ✨
If your hair is thinning, shedding, or just not feeling like it used to, this might be your sign to start supporting it differently.
I’ve personally been using the Revian RED cap for the past six months as part of my own hair restoration routine, and I love how simple it is: just 10 minutes a day.
Its dual-wavelength LED technology supports a healthier scalp and fuller-looking hair without adding another complicated step to your day.
In honor of Hair Loss Awareness Month, save $650 through the end of August.

The more I study hair loss, the more I believe in assessment before intervention.
Hair loss isn’t one condition. Pattern hair loss, temporary shedding and scalp inflammation may each require a different approach.
That means looking at the scalp and pattern, asking about history, considering nutrition and lifestyle, understanding the evidence and knowing when to refer out.
Red light has evidence for certain types of hair loss. Some nutraceuticals show promise. Newer technologies like cold plasma are exciting, but research is still developing. New doesn’t automatically mean proven and more doesn’t automatically mean better.
Sometimes the smartest question isn’t:
“What else can I add?”
It’s:
“What is my hair trying to tell me?” 🩷
If you’re experiencing hair loss or increased shedding, start with an assessment…not a guess. Save this for later, and follow along for evidence-informed hair and scalp education.

A little up close + personal 🩷🌸
If you’re new here, hi ✌️I’m Shannon, the woman behind The Beauty Cottage.
I’ve spent 17 years in the hair industry, and somewhere along the way, my love for beautiful hair turned into a much deeper curiosity about why our hair changes in the first place. Today, as a Certified Hair Practitioner and while continuing my education in trichology, so much of my work is centered around scalp health, hair loss restoration, education, and helping my clients look beyond what they see in the mirror. Because hair loss is rarely just about the hair. I want to know what’s happening beneath the surface. What is the scalp telling us? What has changed in your body, lifestyle, stress, nutrition, or environment?
And how can we create a healthier foundation moving forward? My approach will always be personalized, restorative, and root-cause-first.
But outside of The Beauty Cottage, I’m also just Shannon. 😂
I love my iced coffee, Pilates, learning something new, adventures with my family, and being a grandma might just be one of my favorite roles ever. 🥰
Faith + family are at the center of everything for me.
So whether you’ve followed me for years, you’re here because you’re struggling with hair loss, or you just found my little corner of Alaska…
I’m really glad you’re here😘.
Tell me something about YOU below. 👇🏻🩷
Life has felt like a lot of things at once lately.
Some really beautiful things.
Some really hard things.
Some beginnings I’m so proud of.
Some changes my heart wasn’t quite ready for.
I’ve cried happy tears and really sad ones.
I’ve celebrated.
I’ve worried.
I’ve let go.
I’ve held people a little tighter.
I’ve watched my kids step into new seasons while realizing I’m stepping into one too. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I think I’ve stopped trying so hard to make sense of everything.
I’m just letting life be what it is right now.
Beautiful and heavy.
Maybe that’s why I’ve been noticing the sky so much lately. The northern lights in the darkness. The sunrise a few hours later.
And then this ridiculously beautiful blue Alaska sky on my way into work.
Almost like a little reminder from God…
There is still beauty here.
Even when your heart is holding a lot. 🩷
