We asked what the biggest fall hazard in your home was. Stairs and Pets 🐾 were the most common responses. Since we have a lot of people with stairs, we're sharing how to safely go up and down them with a walker

We're here to help members of our community who are at risk for falls. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our clinic for more information.

Your body is stronger than you think!
Pain can be scary - especially when it sticks around.
And when something hurts, it's pretty natural to start avoiding it. Thoughts like "I probably shouldn't bend like that" or " My knee is bad, so I shouldn't squat" to even "My back could go out, so I need to be careful."
But pain doesn't always mean your body is being damaged - and avoiding movement altogether can sometimes make getting back to the things you love even harder.
Physical Therapy isn't just about making pain disappear. It's about helping you understand WHY something hurts, finding movements your body can tolerate, and gradually building the strength, mobility and confidence to do more.
Sometimes that starts small.
Sometimes it means lifting heavy things. Sometimes it means running, jumping, or getting back on the field. And sometimes the goal is simply getting out of bed, picking up your grandkids, or walking through Costco without paying for it later.
Whatever your goal looks like, we want to help you trust your body again.
Move better. Feel better. Get back to living.

While falls can happen anywhere, more than half occur at home 🏠️. One of the easiest ways to help prevent a fall is to make sure that specific tripping hazards are addressed and removed. We’ve put together a short list below to help you get started. 👉️ https://nuvi.me/12dea4

"It hurts when I do this... should I stop?"
It's one of the most common questions we hear in physical therapy, and unfortunately, the answer is everyone's favorite:
It depends. 😆
Pain is your body's way of giving you information, but pain does not always equal damage.
Sometimes an irritated area needs a little modification while it settles down. Sometimes the answer is gradually rebuilding strength or mobility. And sometimes, yes, something needs a closer look before you keep pushing through it.
That's part of what PTs do - help figure out WHY something hurts, what you can safely keep doing, and how to get you back to doing more of it.
Because the goal usually isn't to avoid movement.
It's to find the right movement, at the right amount, at the right time.

🇺🇸 Labor Day weekend is almost here!
Around Alaska, a long weekend might mean camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, tackling that last summer project… or simply finding an excuse to get outside before fall REALLY shows up. 🍂😂
Whatever your plans are, your Northern Edge crew has one request:
Keep moving and go do something you love. 💙
After all, that’s a big part of why we do what we do. Physical therapy isn’t just about getting rid of pain — it’s about helping you get back to the activities, adventures and everyday moments that matter to you.
And one friendly reminder from your PT crew:
You do NOT have to cram three months of unfinished summer projects into one Labor Day weekend. 😜
Your back will thank you.
Here are a few ways our NEPT crew likes to spend their time outside the clinic. 🏕️🥾🏔️
What are you doing for the long weekend?
Have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend from Northern Edge!

🎒 Well… apparently none of us planned on physical therapy. 😂
Friday we shared what our staff thought they’d be when they grew up — and our childhood career plans were all over the place.
🦴 Hand surgeon
👨🍳 Chef
✏️ Designer
🩺 Nurse
🦖 Paleontologist
🌊 Marine biologist
🚁 And, of course, teacher + nurse + doctor + helicopter pilot all at once.
Somehow, those paths eventually led us here. 💙
And honestly, physical therapy lets us be a little bit of everything anyway.
We’re teachers when we help you understand what’s going on with your body.
We’re problem solvers when something hurts and you can’t figure out why.
We’re a little bit scientist when we’re testing, measuring and figuring out what makes you move better.
We’re coaches when it’s time to rebuild strength and confidence.
And occasionally… getting someone safely on and off the AlterG or 1080 Sprint feels close enough to helicopter pilot. 😜
Different backgrounds, different personalities and different specialties — but one team working toward the same thing:
Helping our clients move better, feel better, and get back to the things that matter to them.
Thanks for playing along with us!

🎒 Before they were PTs, techs, and the awesome crew keeping Northern Edge running… they were kids with some pretty big plans. 😂
We asked our staff what they wanted to be when they grew up — and the answers did not disappoint.
🦴 Hand surgeon
👨🍳 Chef
✏️ Designer
🩺 Nurse
🦖 Paleontologist
🌊 Marine biologist
🚁 And one ambitious kid who planned to be a teacher, nurse, doctor AND helicopter pilot… all at once. 😂
Think you know our crew? 👀
Tell us in the comments: Who wanted to be what?
We’ll reveal the answers later! 😜
And somehow… they all ended up here with us at Northern Edge. 💙

Fall sports are back! But is your athlete sore... or injured?
Getting back into practices, games, and training can come with some normal aches and muscle soreness - especially after a summer of a different activity level.
But how do you know when it's more than that?
Normal post-workout soreness usually:
✔ Shows up after a harder or unfamiliar workout
✔ Improves over the next couple of days
✔ Doesn't significantly change how the athlete moves
✔ Gets better as the body adapts to training
It may be worth taking a closer look when:
❌ Pain keeps returning in the same spot
❌ They're limping or changing how they run, jump, or throw
❌ They're noticeable swelling
❌ Pain is getting worse instead of better
❌ They're avoiding activities they would normally enjoy
❌ Pain is affecting practice, games, or everyday activities
Young athletes don't need to "push through" everything. If pain is changing the way they move, limiting their sport, or just isn't getting better, it may be time to have it looked at.
Our goal isn't just getting athletes out of pain. It's helping them get back to the field, court, track, mat, trail, or wherever they love to compete.
Here's to a healthy fall sports season!
